My overall experience in SGGSCC New Delhi has been excellent. It is known for its focus on Commerce, Economics, and Management courses whilst still offering other Undergraduate degree in Computer Science and BA (Hons.) in Punjabi. It places emphasis on academics and overall growth of a student. The faculty is highly qualified and approachable. The staffroom is open for students to go into and professors openly take your doubts. The college is also a pebble's throw away from Netaji Subhash Place Metro Station, which makes it easy to reach. The area around is quite safe and offers a decent social environment for students. Overall, the college has carved a niche for itself for students aiming to excel in the Commerce field.

I have chosen the flagship course of this college that is B.Com (Hons.). It is highly sought after course because of its blend of theoretical and practical learning in field of Accounting, Finance, and Business Management. This college is reputed because of its academic structure and placement opportunities. It follows the semester-wise exam pattern of DU, where the biannual semester system is followed. It also conducts mid- semester exams to account for the internal assessment. The internal assessments encompass class presentations, written assignments, class tests that are conducted by the professors throughout the term to encourage consistent study habits. The core subjects of B.Com (Hons.) like Financial Accounting, Corporate and Business Law, Taxation, and Business Communication equip students with technical knowledge that forms the foundation of Commerce practices. Various societies of the college also conduct seminars and workshops on topics like financial planning, entrepreneurship, etc. to add practical value. This makes students well prepared to face challenges in corporate world while gaining a lifelong learning mindset. Its admission process is centralized at DU by CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) which is preceded by CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test). Prospective students will have to attempt the following papers to gain admission in the college: English plus Accountancy or Mathematics plus any 2-domain subjects. The ideal combination for a Commerce student is English plus Accountancy plus Economics plus Business Studies. After attempting this entrance exam, you have to fill in the preferences at ‘common seat allocation system portal’ where, if you meet the cutoff, you will gain admission into the college. Some other undergraduate courses offered by the college are BA (Hons.) in Economics, B.Sc (Hons.) in Computer Science, Bachelor of Management Studies, Bachelor of Business Economics, and B.Com. We use a specified app to view our class’ schedule and attendance in real time. It also updates our assignment marks as soon as our professors mark them. This modernization makes the whole process of tracking subject-wise attendance and viewing assignment grades very smooth. We also have the notice board and faculty connect feature on that app.

The fee of Sri Guru Gobind Singh is quite low compared to private institutions, reflecting its status as a Central University. The fee for B.Com (Hons.) is Rs. 35,000 per year and the fees for Bachelors in Management Studies is almost Rs. 50,000 per year. The college being a Sikh minority institution, offers various fee concessions for students from marginalized backgrounds and Sikh minority. There are also various concessions on need and merit basis.

The faculty is excellent and very well qualified. They are approachable and responsive to doubts at any time during college hours. Most of the professors use blackboards to teach. They are empathetic and try to create an inclusive environment for the entire class.

The college has a highly active and well-organized placement cell that bridges the gap between academics and the corporate world. It provides support to students in the form of industry connections, skill development through workshops and training sessions, resume and interview preparation, regular internship and placement drives. The college boasts renowned companies that visit us like Deloitte, KPMG, Ernest & Young, PwC, Zomato, Amazon, and various Boutique firms and startups.

Yes, there is a girl’s hostel. It has 42 rooms that can accommodate up to 126 girls. All rooms are AC equipped. Other facilities are also provided like common room with TV, washing machines, hygienic mess food, etc. to ensure a comfortable stay.

SGGSCC New Delhi boasts best infrastructure. There are 4 academic blocks for different courses. The campus has well maintained facilities, clean corridors, updated computer labs, and a peaceful atmosphere, which are palpable for learning. The compact yet efficient campus is spread over 10 acres of land including an indoor shooting range, 2 GYMs in the basement, football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis court, an amazing cricket ground, table tennis and various other facilities for sporting. All classrooms are centrally air-conditioned and can comfortably seat for more than 60 students at a time. The 2-floored library has an extensive collection of over 50,000 books and it also provides access to various e-resources like DELNET. The seminar hall is frequently used for workshops, guest lectures, and student club activities. It is equipped with AV system and has a capacity of above 200 students. The fully air conditioned auditorium is a centerpiece of the campus. It can accommodate over 500 people and is used for large-scale programs. The canteen alongside an amphitheatre is a favorite spot for students to unwind between classes. It offers affordable snacks and quick meals in a vast seating area, there is also a student Cafe Coffee Day beside the canteen that operates on nominal charges.

The overall campus life is vibrant and enriching. We as students enjoy a holistic and lively environment with various club activities and cultural events. The crowd is a mix of diverse talented and enthusiastic individuals. Although it has a significant Sikh student population, they warmly welcome all students from different communities. The tight-knit community of this college and inclusive culture makes it an enjoyable experience for students. There are plethora of student led clubs and societies, catering to different interests. Some of them are 180DC, Enactus: social entrepreneurship, Rotaract, Misba: western dance society, Surveen: the music society, Meraki: literature and book club, Manchtantra, NEST startup incubator, and many more. There are many fests organized by the student union like the fresher’s event, annual college fest, and festivities throughout the year. Campus life here is dynamic and fun for everyone.
