A Perspective on Campus and Hostel Life at Chandigarh University

My journey in Chandigarh University was nice because it gave me a good atmosphere to study and get to know my skills. They also encourage us to take part in several co-curricular activities to refresh our minds. I also participated in several hackathons on the national level. Also, we got support from our faculties to prepare for the hackathons and get to know about the ideas. It also has a separate Kalpana Chawla Centre for students who are interested in research and astronomy. One thing that needs improvement is their management.

I was pursuing a BE in Computer Science Engineering. This university simply takes admission based on your 12th board percentage which should at least be 50%. This program gives us the opportunity to work in any of the IT sectors, otherwise after completing the degree you can also opt for the GATE examination for higher studies.

If I talk about the faculty members of this university, most of them are Ph.D degree holders or have master’s degrees. In terms of the faculty, I would say it is average. There should be some changes regarding teaching methods as it can be monotonous due to teachers just using PPTs to teach us. Although, in the soft skills lectures, faculties try to motivate you to speak in front of the class for you to become confident during the placement interview process. Also, there are many group discussions in the lectures of soft skills to improve your communication skills.

Yes, it has a Placement Cell, but it is also joined with the Chandigarh Group of Colleges which is CGC landran and CGC Jhenjeri University and it increases the tough competition during the placement season. Also, there is a certain criterion for the students to be able to sit for the placements. For placements, the university charges Rs.10, 000/- for a student to sit for the placement.

Yes, it has a hostel facility but it is also divided in many categories according to your budget like if you want 4 seater then there is an NC hostel which will cost you around 1, 20,000 per year and if you want 5 seater then it will cost you less. So, depending upon your need you can avail of the hostel. The food and the menu of the hostels are awesome and the timing of the mess is comfortable according to the timetable of your university lectures. The rooms of the hostels are very big and have a very big area for walking in the evening. There are fire assembly points during the fire outrage to save the students. There are many shops inside the hostel but their prices are very high. Also, if you order something online then you have to take it from their front gate which is very far from the hostel.

If I talk about the Campus then it has many departments like Engineering, MBA, Finance, Hotel Management, and many more. Every department has its own separate building for academics. B1, B2, B3, and C3 for the engineering block where my lectures commence. There are also many libraries in every block for self-studies during the examination days and other days. Every classroom is centralized with air conditioners to get relief from the heat during the summer days. Xerox shops are also available on the campus for printouts, and it has a cafeteria for having lunch for the day scholars, but the crowd is too much there during the lunch period.

When I took admission in the university at that time COVID pandemic was going on. My first fest was during the month of November when Atif Aslam came to our campus for the fest. Also, every year there is a grand fest organized in which big celebrities come, and students get the chance to organize stalls so there is also an opportunity to earn money on that day. There are many types of cultural activities that take place to showcase their culture and talents to other students. You can also take part in modeling and Chandigarh University also promotes sports activity for students to participate in national level competition.
