One thing that TNU has done well is they have hired the best people to advertise and market the University. Everyone in Kolkata and nearby places knows about this University, even though it is not in Kolkata. So students who have big dreams don't get fooled by TNU's lucrative posters because I was among the initial passed-out batch of the University and trust me, all my expectations were shortened at TNU. Once you come to the College it means you can't move and you are confined to TNU campus because there are hardly any amenities or good shops around the campus. Even the campus doesn't have many. The seniors here looked like juniors as down students; and though ragging has their strict actions, no one can dare to speak even if they are ragged. Any uncanny incident or anything like that has happened and security is still good. The infrastructure is a little weird, and the crowd is indeed the most pathetic one.

The day used to start with unavoidable advice and speech which was given by management people who didn't even teach us. Well, they claimed that they have the best course and best faculties on board, but I don't think they have done justice to their statement. The course was still fresh and something relatable to the industries. We were told we would be given a hell lot of projects and all but in the name of projects, assignments were given. I guarantee many of those assignments were signed and given back without even checking. I had a lot of time worrying about my future, but come the final year and the mandatory 75% attendance rule was also gone.

The faculties were good but maybe I expected much because seeing a lot of Malu teachers and teachers from Gujarat, and Maharashtra, I was like they will bring something new but they had the same legs. Some of the faculties were all over the students like a rash. One appreciable thing about them was that they put up a brave show before the exams. If the portion was left, they would finish it like anything without worrying whether the students were getting it or not. Faculties couldn't embody the kind of education they might have received because some of them were IIM graduates.

Already people in Kolkata are talking about 10-12 private Universities in Kolkata but not TNU. The reason is that those 10-12 Universities have been able to place their students with some great packages. At TNU, though, there were no placements for BBA students, and some companies that came to hire students from other departments, took interviews but I could barely see students from BBA were placed with at least an average package, if not good. So, the flop show of placements is one of the main reasons for me criticizing TNU.

There were both boys' and girls' hostels inside the University. I know quite a few students who used to stay at the hostel and they said they are quite happy staying at the hostels. I agree the rooms may be nice; the food provided must be good, but outside the University yard there was nothing at least 20 miles away. I don't think I could have ever stayed at the hostel and taken on that challenge of 'Big Boss' where you have to stay inside the campus. What's more was that there was a curfew time too, as students couldn't move past 9 pm inside the campus and even the mess used to get closed by 9.30 pm.

The entire infrastructure looked excellent on some days and equally weird on some. I felt like we were studying on farms because more than roads there were gardens inside the campus. Gardens as in greenery, because at some point, the campus was used for rearing cattle, but now has been turned into a University which looks as beautiful as anything. There were a couple of beautiful points inside the campus. The canteen was one and the auditorium was the other one as both were a little unique, but that's TNU. You are going to get surprises or shocks as there's nothing ordinary or common about it.

Many factors weigh on on-campus life. Education is the biggest and then comes the extracurricular activities. For those who are interested in extracurricular activities, they don't have to worry a bit, because the University has all the arrangements. From the clubhouse to the activity hall, those students can make their clubs and carry on with their stuff. I wish the same sort of arrangement was done for placements as well. So there are a lot of things which they had to correct by the time I left; I hope they have sorted out all those issues.
