Roorkee College of Engineering doesn't provide engineering courses, but many other courses too. I did a BBA from there in the 2014-17 batch and while all the facilities remain the same, placements dip a lot. RCOE has a dress code and it has to be followed because barring Saturday, we are not allowed to wear a civil uniform. The College admission process for BBA is simple as one becomes eligible if they have scored 50% or more in their 12th exams. No entrance for BBA and still the intake is low as many students don't even know that RCOE offers BBA. We hardly had outsiders on our course as 90% of the students were from Roorkee itself. The course did teach us what is taught in Top Colleges, but unless you get placements, you will never be satisfied. Some of our batch students still found some placements but the rest were in the doldrums. It was top-inspired academics at RCOE, but certainly not the placements.

Academics here is not just a GOAT (Greatest of All-Time), but academics here is an entire farm. So, making an education millennial I feel must have taken a lot because along with BBA, we used to get trained for competitive exams for which we appeared further. If the first year was good, then year after year, the College has graduated from good to best, at least in terms of studies. Our library had single access to case studies from Harvard Business School and we were given notes from that. Just look at their academic structure. There are two midterms and one end term, and there's no wiser way to discover how the scores were calculated. However, I always got some extra grades than what I expected. I can call it a structural defect, but it worked for students, so no one complained.

If turmoil could happen in BBA, it was the faculties who saved us. The faculties here were hungry for more, and that is why I was mighty impressed by them. Faculties are the green shoots of RCOE, be it any department. I had friends in almost every department and one common thing was that the faculty were the best at RCOE. So, whoever has picked them or done casting of them at RCOE has done a terrific job.

For BBA, so few placements were quite poor, as even with such few students the College failed to get the students placed. If I compared placements with engineering, it was quite poor. Some students were offered jobs but with placements as low as 15-20 thousand a month. So, all in all, calling placements poor is also a huge understatement. The irony was that engineering students with backs were getting placed, but even the students who have passed through in the BBA found it tough to get themselves placed. So, it was a poor run of play by the College in terms of placements.

Both KD and ML Bhawan are filled with B. Tech students and a student of BBA will always look poor in front of them at the hostels. Some of my friends who used to stay at the hostels left the hostel because they said the hostel was good for engineering students but certainly not for the students of other courses. The same goes with the girls Bhawan too because they're also students of my batch, and faced the same issues. So, the crux of the matter is that you should join this College and hostel if you want to do engineering.

Infrastructure was neither extravagant nor poor. It was somewhere in between because some of the facilities were worth mentioning, while some were missing or weren't that well facilitated. The auditorium, library, canteen, and classes were great. The playground, hostels, and recreational activities weren't sufficient. The strength of the College is high, and some of the facilities are not at all-sufficient. Even the canteen is not sufficient to accommodate over 100 students at a time and therefore during the lunch break many students have seen gate crashing for their lunches. The College area is quite sufficient and at least one more boy and a girl hostel can easily be accommodated in it.

I feel the College needs to figure out what they want to do. If they want to build an excellent engineering College then they have done it already. However, if they feel like having a College providing multiple courses, then a lot needs to be done. The campus is always filled with engineering students and as they say, if a stone is pelted amidst the crowd of the College, it will go and hit the engineering student only. I guess this should change as other department students, too, should feel accommodated inside the campus.
