If one has to see the best dance moves from students, they will come only after they see themselves qualified for placements. I got my best moves on during the after-placement party at NIT Durgapur. If one says that there is a place where all things can go right, then for me that's NIT Durgapur. My life here is perhaps a snapshot of many happy moments because NIT Durgapur was a giant killer. Yes, it is considered way below; many NITs, forget the IITs. I don't know on which parameter is it judged; but if it's infrastructure, I can still believe it, but if it's something else, then I am sorry because I refuse to believe it. There was hardly any scare at NIT Durgapur because academics were obviously at the top and as they say, if one takes care of their academics during the College life, then the rest other things take care of itself. This is exactly what happened at NIT Durgapur, as turning east from North was like going abroad for studies.

Academics here were never unsettled; it was as if the College knew how to go about the business and put the right gear on right time. What I have seen from my experience is that there are Colleges where academics run like, you are invited for dinner and you don't know who is going to come for dinner. So, here the table of academics was served with the best menu, and the guests (students) knew what to eat at what time. Academics here were not a bit of everything, but it was complacent for anything. Yes, it was so damn good, but as they say, everybody has to play equally well together to produce results. So, the faculty alone couldn't have made the difference; the students too, have put in a lot of effort, and that is why the College for me is the best in academics.

One thing against which I have very strong views is that if faculty and student relations are not good, education will suffer. At National Institute of Technology Durgapur, when I first saw the professors, I was like, how could I be friends with a 50-year-old fellow. The 1st week passed and I could sit and have tea with them at 'Chandu Tea Stall'. Yes, they were so cool that even students were put to shame. So, their education acumen, and their experience doesn't count because their teaching skills were at par with Rafael Nadal's game on clay court.

If 100% placements are a myth then I am sorry to interrupt because the myth will be broken at NIT Durgapur. One doesn't need alcohol to bring the strange things out of him/her. During student life, getting a Q sign against a company's name with a figure of X amount and the party will start immediately for him or her. Well, I was narrating what exactly happened with my post placements. All top companies who needed a person to give them tech solutions came to NIT Durgapur and got the best bargain in the process because students here were as skilled as IIT Bombay students.

Hostels here are called halls of residence, and I have been a part of two such residence halls. Some of the halls are too old, but they have been maintained well. One will see sweepers, sweeping day in and day out to make sure that students find the best environment around and inside their rooms. The food was a little new for me because I am a non-veg eater, but having fish every odd day hasn't been on my menu ever. Well, at NIT Durgapur, it was added and even today I ensure that I have fish at least once a week.

A huge campus filled with trees, some heritage buildings, and outfields that remained wet the entire year. I will begin with the canteens over here as I was used to one canteen at a University, but here there were plenty. From cafés to restaurants, to the pocket-friendly canteen, one can find everything inside the NIT Durgapur campus. In the playgrounds also, we had to choose on which ground we wanted to play. There were three of them, and one can use any because on grounds there's no junior or senior, its team vs team or individual vs individual. Even the classrooms were well maintained; it's just that some old vibes didn't leave because of the buildings that now need to be demolished.

Well, forget about all the subpar campus life because NIT Durgapur campus life was above par. There were multiple fests and one thing that was compulsorily added to the annual event was an authentic Bengali skit and dance. This was to ensure that students who have come here don't know the College but also the culture of the state where they have spent a fair bit of time.
