Student Life at IISER Kolkata: Campus, Hostels, and Amenities

My overall review of IISER Kolkata is very good. The campus, infrastructure, professors, and academic experience are excellent.

The course structure is designed to provide students outstanding inter-disciplinary approach. In the 1st year you will study Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Earth Science. In the 2nd year you choose any 2 subjects which you would like to study moving forward. From the 3rd year have to choose one major and on minor subject.

All professors have completed their postdoctoral education and are currently researching at the institute. Therefore, they are have updated knowledge in their field. Their extensive teaching and research experience makes them perfect for educating students who want to contribute to the ongoing research. The professors live in the campus so if there is any issue you can always get help from them. Moreover, the entire faculty is good and you can easily find a teacher with in-depth knowledge about any lesser known subject.

The hostels are the best among all the hostels I have seen or heard about. There is staff to clean the hostels and if there is any issue it gets resolved within couple of hours.

The campus has very good infrastructure with lush green environment. No matter how stressed you are, spending some time around the campus can always clear your mind. The whole campus is connected through Wi-Fi and all the academic blocks have centralized AC which provides us a comfortable environment for studying. All the buildings are comparatively new with great view and ventilation. No matter the issue it always gets resolved within hours or at maximum a day. We have all the required amenities starting from a small tea shop near academic building to a full sized swimming pool and gym.

An academic year begins with fresher tournament and inter-batch sports tournaments. The sports club also organises various tournaments. After couple of months we have our literary fest 'Lexis'. Furthermore, the inter-IISER sports and culture meet is conducted immediately after our semester exams. The next semester starts with our fest 'Inquivesta'.
