UIIT Shimla is an average College as it is cost-effective and the cost of the study is justified. However, if you look at the curriculum and labs that some of the private Universities like LPU University and Amity University have, it has almost nothing. UIIT Shimla does have a little higher regard because it is a government College, but to be honest, it wasn't worth it much. At UIIT, your result is in your hand because the management and the teachers over here will never force you to study. There are many scholarships too, awarded by UIIT which I feel is a great initiative. Project Explorica at UIIT was one of the grand events where our projects were displayed and 10-15k students from various Colleges and Universities came and watched our program. UIIT students have shown their mettle by getting placed in some of the best companies. The placement percentage is average, but skilled students did find themselves some of the best jobs through UIIT.

We were taught with a project style of learning. As engineers we were taught to have some dynamic approach where we were given real-world problems and how do we have to solve those. For programmers though, the College was a backward one because still we were taught using C, C++, and Turbo compilers. Invited talk sessions are organized so that we could learn directly from the experts. Not academic but industrial wisdom is also taught to students for an enhanced learning experience. For students who want to study further and prepare for entrance classes for NQA (National Qualifying Exams) such as CAT, GATE and others are provided. Training for jobs also happens at the UIIT campus.

Faculties were so good that they made us change and adapt to the environment. The disparity in studies that comes after HSC is seen during the first year as the break between the 12th and engineering first semester is huge. Nearly 3 months break and students, in general, lose some momentum. So, they start off by knocking around, and once things are settled the pace increases. A lot of critical decisions by them were against students, and they were not the crowd's favorites. To make our chances of placements happen, the faculties had played a big part, and that's the reason why students of UIIT got placed so well.

Placements weren't the only thing that happened at the UIIT campus. All the students were after an international company and placements were student protest stations for sure. Students were seen getting jobs worth 12-16 lakhs in Amazon, Microsoft, and Adobe. Placements were the fruits of the season for students as even though 60% students had placements from campus. So, most students had success with placements here but most students were signed as trainees as we were taught outdated things, and many companies felt that giving them a trainee offer is the best that they can offer. The few intelligent ones who had placements above 10 LPA. So, few things saw students' fate at the placements; one was few students have taken up the average placement figures and few international software companies now have started looking at UIIT as a prospect for their organizations.

Hostels are the starry thing in the armory of any College or University. UIIT campus had no reservations for hostels as the University hostels were not meant for us. Staying outside was the only way left for us, but who cared when we could have independent PGs that had no restrictions. Finding PGs is not that difficult as there are many houses in Shimla that have a 'To Let' sign board hanging on their doors.

UIIT has shown many Universities why the infrastructure of UIIT is so highly regarded. Let's move to the elevating part of the infrastructure because if I include UIIT building, it won't be fair. The building was inside HP University and we could use everything available at the campus. From cafes to shops, to many auditoriums and the one grand central library. They were all meant for us and I made the best use of them. The infrastructure on the whole propelled us to spend maximum time at the campus as I used to reach the campus by 8:30 and not leave before 7 pm.

At UIIT, one certain thing was that our fate was in our hands. Shimla is a place where doing drugs and all is cool and it happened at the campus. Some lost their way in the middle, while some who used resources to good effect made a great career at the UIIT campus. One will not find many unexciting moments at the campus of UIIT as there are many events and things that do happen at the campus. I enjoyed my time over there because I have seen a lot of beauty and places around which otherwise might not have been possible.
