Glimpse of First Year at GMC, Bhopal

Overall Rating
GMC Bhopal is the 2nd ranked medical college of MP. In my opinion it should be number 1. GMC offers some really great infrastructure and has amazing faculties who teach with great passion towards the subject. As a first year MBBS student, I can tell you that it really is like a second home and the people you will meet here have lots of different stories to learn from.
 

Academics Rating
Coming to Academics, we have weekly tutorials to brush up our concepts. We strictly follow CBME curriculum and there are variety of study methods used by professors not only to pass but also to make us into a competent Indian medical graduate. Apart from this we also have Part completion tests after each unit is completed and 2 sessional exams along with pre university exam to prepare us for professional exams.
 

Faculty Rating
Each faculty has their different way of teaching and they are all unique from one another. Some professors show great enthusiasm towards the subject and encourage active participation in class. Obviously not everything can be great, there are a few professors who would come into class and just read the slides and complete one chapter in one class. At the end what I would suggest is always study for the lecture prior to it being taught so that you can be familiar with terminology.
 

Placement Rating
It is a medical college and placement doesn't really matter much in this field. But our Post graduate program also has over 267 seats in various clinical and non clinical specialties.
 

Hostel Rating
Hostel is one of the main concerns here at GMC. We have 3 hostels for UG Boys and only one for UG Girls. The condition of boy’s hostel is same as you would find in other medical colleges. Girl’s hostel is relatively new and better maintained but since there is only one hostel with a capacity of 300 Girls, it is really unlikely to get the hostel in first year itself. But thanks to our dean, there are two more hostels being built, one for Girls and one for boys. So hopefully in future there won't be many issues regarding this.
 

Infrastructure Rating
GMC Bhopal has a really huge campus which includes a multi wing college building along with a separate admin block and library with multi level parking. We have two college affiliated hospitals which are Hamidia Hospital and Kamla Nehru Hospital. Hamidia hospital is one of the well known hospitals of Bhopal with two blocks and over 2000 bedded. Along with this, GMC Bhopal is the only medical college in MP to have a State Virology lab. There is also a Central Pathology Lab and Blood Bank located in the hospital.
 

Campus Rating
Overall campus life at GMC is quiet and peaceful. GMC being located in the Old Bhopal prevents you from living a fast city life. There is Taj-Ul Masjid situated opposite to college which is Asia's largest mosque. We have our very own annual fest called Plexus which I've heard is an amazing opportunity to show your hobbies. Apart from that, We can also attend the Annual Fest of AIIMS Bhopal which is RETINA, usually held in January.
