RCE is very, very impressive, so RCE gets the nod for one of the best engineering Colleges in Roorkee. Growing up in the vicinity of IIT Roorkee, I always aimed for that, but having got a little less mark in JEE mains deprived that opportunity from me. RCE still didn't disappoint as RCE was the big breakout College in the last few years as some of the students of the College have managed to get the placements in numbers which were beyond anyone's reach unless they are in IITs. The College is world class, one of the best in academics; faculties will mold themselves depending on the way you want them to be. Thus, RCE is a fantastic Institute that can boast value to your CV, if you have done engineering from here. Since, my parents made it clear that they won't be sending me out to study, so there was no discussion left on which College to join after having missed IIT Roorkee.

You never choose or pick a College unless you are sure that academics are the strong hold of that College. Since I picked RCE, I made sure that academics here are good and there shouldn't be any debate or discussion on the academics. After having the surety that it fits the most important criteria, it became a no-brainer for me to join this College. In the first semester, though, I thought that my academic expectations might fly under the radar but luckily, in the coming semesters the College made amends for the time that they lost during the first semester doing all the things but academics. Engineering Colleges in general have the highest dropout and lowest passing percentage. Now please notice the figures that I know, the dropout percentage was minimal and passing percentage at RCE was over 70%. So, both the issues that in general the engineering College has were non-existent at RCE.

Faculties were a specialist force of the College who knew one way and that was to go bang bang. Faculties were the wow element of RCE, as in all we had around 25 faculties and pinpointing one is not possible. I mean, they all were wow as some of the faculties continued teaching us at least one subject in each semester but otherwise only the specialists entered the class to take classes of respective subjects. Out of an hour's class, they spent 45 minutes and I don't think one can ever have issues with class timings provided that they make sure that student's concepts are clear. Since, they were cleared in the classes itself; I give faculties the biggest thumbs up ever.

My above three departments have already made it clear that placements were top at RCE. Yes, they were as close to 1000 students of CSE and more than half had campus placements. The companies that entered the campus were Amazon, Wipro, TCS, Coforge, Happiest Minds, and others. No one even dared to offer a salary worth 40k or less to RCE students, as the students were that brilliant. I was offered a similar package but in Mumbai. My parents asked me two things, do I want to continue studying or have a job and build a career. I chose studies because I knew some pieces of education that I have done needs to be fixed but otherwise, though, students who are better placed in terms of skills and their academic report cards are bound to get placements from RCE.

The strength in engineering Colleges for female students is increasing, but yet there was one girl's hostel. The College location is such that a nearby apartment or PG was at least 3-4 miles from the College and many girls had to arrange their boarding and lodging outside. The hostel is good, but the only issue is with its size. It can accommodate around 250 girls, but the outsider girl's strength has increased tremendously in the last few years and the College should re-think on having another girl's hostel.

The College is huge, I mean, not as huge as IIT Roorkee, but still a campus area of 75 acres is no less. It was the facilities at the campus that did more talking about the infrastructure than the campus area. We had a nice library, nice classrooms, nice auditorium, and the nicest canteen. Online payment methods didn't come into existence by the time I passed out, but now the canteens, the stationery shop, and the tuck shop all have started accepting online payments.

Campus Life at RCE was like a floating slip, which has a bit of everything. Academics may be the principal, but an engineering College and engineering life cannot move ahead without activities. The main cultural fest of the College Utkarsh is held in April every year and students of all departments form their teams and participate in that.
