Hansraj College B.A Review By Suvam Srivastava

It has been nothing but a wonderful experience at Hansraj College, which is by the way considered one of the best UG colleges for commerce students in India. There is a very high cutoff for Hansraj College and trust me it is all worth it. My expectations have been exceeded. I chose to attend this college mainly because of the vast exposure and networking opportunities that are available here. Being placed at the heart of our country, Hansraj College offers an extensive college experience including both academics and extracurricular activities. Being a commerce student, all this opportunities are very much beneficial for the betterment and advancement of one's career.

I am enrolled in the B.Com (Hons.) course which is the most demanding and prestigious course of not only this college but in the whole University of Delhi. There is a reason why this course has the highest cutoff in CUET. Now CUET is the entrance exam which one has to give to get into any college in University of Delhi and Hansraj College has one of the highest cutoffs of all the colleges for this particular course. The cutoff for general category for B.Com (Hons.) course went up to 776 / 800. This shows the level of competition out there. The subject combination which one has to choose in CUET for this course is English + Accountancy and 2 other subjects which they have studied in Class 12th. However the eligibility requirements may change for the upcoming years. One main motive for enrolling in this program was to get the taste of the cut throat competition one will get here which in turn will help us grow in our career.

The faculty members here at Hansraj College are of top notch quality. There are many esteemed names in our teaching faculty including people who have experience both in the teaching line and in the corporate industries. There is a distinguished faculty for all our discipline specific subjects along with the additional subjects of General Elective, Skill Enhancement Course, Value Addition Course and Ability Enhancement Course. Most of the professors have Ph.D degrees in their respective fields and are very much articulate in their ways of teaching. Many innovative and creative ideas are taken up by our professors for teaching their subjects. Such ideas include student led presentations, interactive tutorials and many more.

We do have a Placement Cell at Hansraj College and along with that there is also an Internship Cell at our college. Both these cells are much active and they provide valuable opportunities to all the students of our college. The average placement record of the last academic year stands at 7-8 LPA and the medium package stands at 8-9 LPA. Along with this the highest package stands at around 30 LPA which is quite high for UG students. Mostly recruiters come from finance and consulting backgrounds and firms. This literally shows how effective our Placement Cell is. The Internship Cell also provides adequate opportunities in form of summer and winter internship, research projects and many more such things.

The Hostel of Hansraj College is quite big and extensive including two buildings allocated for both boys and girls hostel. The boy’s hostel is quite big and hosts around 250 boys and the girl’s hostel hosts around 150 girls. Both these hostels are equipped with various amenities including home style cooked food, water purifier, washing machine, gym, park, proper ventilation, and common rooms. These hostels are well equipped to cater to all the needs of the students and it is inside the campus which is beneficial for the students. They can access the college library and the sports ground for a longer time frame.

There are in total 7 gates to enter or exit our college. The whole infrastructure is divided into three academic blocks named as A, B and C. There is one more block D which is currently in construction and once finished it will make the college much larger. The blocks are designated for specific courses like A block are for commerce and economics department, B block is for the science department and C block is for the arts department. We have a huge canteen which provides cooked food and along with this there is a Nescafe station, Amul station and Mitti Cafe which are quite famous in our college. We also have a butterfly conservatory which hosts vibrant plants and butterflies. There are huge sports grounds and a basketball and volleyball court. Hansraj College is one of the few colleges that provide an indoor badminton court and the only college in DU to provide a special shooting range. There also are physiotherapy rooms, yoga rooms and a big modern gymnasium. Each and every classroom is air conditioned.

The campus life at Hansraj is quite vibrant and full of ambience. The infrastructure is well maintained and that gives the students the option to spend their leisure time almost everywhere. The sports ground is also quite vibrant which provides the students a place to chill and spend their break time. There are also small parks or ground type areas which are often used by students to sit down and spend their time among friends. Overall the campus life at Hansraj College is one of the best a student can get.
