Among engineering colleges in India, as everyone knows IITs are the most popular and ensuring institutes and even among them IIT Kharagpur is the oldest. The faculty and infrastructure here is totally worth the competition and hard work which one goes through during its preparation. The life here is mesmerizing and again worth the struggle. The placements are lucrative and promising. A good number of students are placed every year with a satisfactory salary per annum.

One needs to pass JEE Advanced which is conducted every year to be eligible to enroll in any of the IITs. Around 10, 00, 00 aspirants enroll for the preliminary JEE Mains but only a few thousand get the opportunity to be a part of the prestigious IITs. Instrumentation engineering B.Tech course is a rare course because it is taught only in IIT Kharagpur. Considering the data of previous few years, one needs to get an AIR (all India rank) less than 2,400 approximately to be able to enroll in this course. The course is promising and ensures good placements to its pursuers. In 2023 itself, 90% of students pursuing my course got placed with an average package of 20 LPA - 25 LPA and the highest salary being 70 LPA - 80 LPA.

The faculty is top tier and so is the infrastructure. The teachers are some of the most qualified brains of the country. The faculty mostly belongs to West Bengal hence has a Bengali background. Most professors and the faculty have a Bengali accent, but English is known by most people here. Communication is never a problem and overall, the faculty is good.

Yes, IIT Kharagpur has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell (TPC), which plays a crucial role in assisting students with internships and final placements. The TPC collaborates with top companies, both in India and abroad, to facilitate recruitment drives for various industries, including technology, consulting, finance, core engineering, and more.

Yes, there are residential facilities available at IIT Kharagpur. There are 13 hostels for boys and 3 hostels for girls, all of them being well guarded 24×7. Mess is present in all these hostels, some hostels being quite big have more than 1 mess as well. Security cameras are present in each hostel, and Wi-Fi facility is present all over the campus. Sporting facilities are top notch as well; let it be cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton, squash, etc. Fests are conducted occasionally on a large scale.

The campus in itself is a complete city. Spread over 2,100 acres, it accommodates all the facilities required in most fields. The central library is one of the biggest library facilities in India and e-book cells are present as well. Restaurants and cafes are present within the campus. Other entertainment sources like cinema are within the campus too. Sports are well assisted by proper equipment and trainers/coaches.

Overall, IIT Kharagpur offers a well-rounded and enriching campus life. It is an ideal for students who are academically driven but also want to explore extracurricular activities, build friendships, and grow personally. The large and picturesque campus, combined with a rigorous academic environment and numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth, makes it one of the most respected IITs in the country. However, the demanding workload and the distance from major cities are factors that students often mention as challenges.
