My journey at IIT Roorkee as B.Tech Mechanical engineer student is transformative. This college contributed me not just in academics but also in personal development. It fulfilled me with confidence, self awareness, growth and gratitude. A JEE student who did hard-work for 2 years, and got into IITR is really worth it. This college unlocks my potential and helps to shape the JEE aspirant beneath me. I feel confident, full of skills and experiences as a student of IITR.

Academics in IITR are quite strict. We have mid semester exam, end semester exam (and the semester almost wrap up in 4 months). After that we have holiday of 1.5 to 2 month after every semester to go to our homes and develop some extra skills apart from academics. As I am mechanical engineer, my academic is full of mechanics, thermodynamics, manufacturing and machining technology, solid works, fluid, solid mechanics, CAD and 3D printing. We need to study really hard to get the grades because we are competing with the best brain of India. I can say that getting grades and CGPA in IITR is not that easy but also not that difficult, if you revise your notes regularly.

Faculty in IITR, specifically the Mechanical and Industrial engineering department is very good and highly knowledgeable (having deep expertise in their respective fields). They used to connect the theory knowledge to the practical world via various workshops held by them. They also provided research based project and internship to the students. The faculty is approachable and supportive.

Infrastructure is so beautiful and clean. As our college is 177 years old. Some buildings like west block mechanical department, physics department are very old buildings but they are maintained. The buildings like HSS department building, APJ lecture hall, new hostels like Himalaya bhawan have very good architecture. College is a wholesome. It has everything like Mordern laboratories, mahatama gandhi central library, hostel and residential areas, sport facilities, research centre, shooting facilities in MAC, and what not. I can’t even list down all the facilities that are provided at the Institute. Just say that it has all facilities which are highly maintained.

Campus life is a blend of personal growth, academic pressure, cultural diversity, enjoyment with new friends, learning new skills together, studying for a particular exam in group (although that group study turn out to be some night out or some trip ), various campus engagements like for coding oriented students, etc. There are specific clubs like PAG, DSG, IMG, MDG and specific filed oriented clubs like for mechanical engineers we have RMS, knox, SAE, ASME, etc. We also have cultural clubs like choreography, music section, dramatics section and many more. Campus life is full of challenges, opportunities, growth, supportive friends and some leg pullers. Overall I enjoy being a part of IITR.
