DIT University MBA Review By Jayant S

Before taking admissions here, I contacted some previous alumni and when I saw their work profile, I decided to take admission here. I forgot to ask them the course as most of them did engineering from here and today am working in top MNCs. There were four domains of specialisations at the university and they were Business Analytics, Finance, HR, and Marketing. As they say beggars can’t be choosers, I had to choose Business Analytics as seats were empty only in that course. 60 students in each specialisation and separate classes for each domain. I felt so good because organizing the students and education in that way was a thing of dream in Dehradun. Most Dehradun universities believe in taking students in numbers irrespective of the facilities they have. Placements were fine but less than what we expected because again the strength was less and still no one became hero from that was disappointing. By hero I mean, one student who bags a package of 20-30 lakhs. So, overall, it was a decent university that had decent crowd.

MBA is not just an extended version of BBA but a much more to that. We were offered a lot of assistance in case analysis, and business simulation. We were made learn how to prepare presentations, and were given many live projects every month. To enhance our skills the university conducted many programs like virtual role plays, quizzes on businesses, and also introduced us to many management games. Study here is developing on skills rather than just studying the course material. It was compulsory for us to undergo technical training, soft skills training, and aptitude building. The transition from students to be a corporate manager was so smooth that we were ready to take on challenges of the world before we were handed over our degrees.

Faculties added value to our course. Almost all of them had sufficient skills and knowledge to solve all our doubts. However, don’t expect much as once they are done then students are left with very little margin to ask them for help. Also, they gave us long notes and none of which came in exams. So, try to work on your skills as papers can be easily cracked if you have knowledge of the subject rather than referring to those long notes. Most of them were into PhD and their research was not over even while they were teaching us.

Pharma, Banks and investment banking companies like Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Nomura too have come for placements. Some of the students were placed in Singapore too. This is of MBA other domains as Business analytic students were placed in Pharma companies like Sun Pharma and Glenmark. Placement percentage was 50% as only half the students were placed. This is the flip side of the placements as not all students went to investment banking companies or private banks. Engineering students enjoyed better placements than the MBA students and that’s why I have mentioned it at the start that DIT is good for engineering but not so good for pursuing MBA.

For PG students there was a Bose Hostel at the campus as it had single bed rooms. There were some other hostels. Boys' hostels too like the Raman Hostel, and Sarabhai Hostel, etc. There were two girls' hostels as well at the campus and one of them was Sarojini hostel that had studio apartments. So, for those who wanted to organize the rooms they want, the studio apartment worked the best. The apartment also had kitchen along. There were dining halls but having food from the mess was not a compulsion.

DIT University is one of the largest universities in Dehradun. It is spread in over 25 acres and more importantly each corner of the university is so well maintained. A food fest was on inside the campus as there are cafeterias in almost all blocks of the campus. The Vedanta block has a CCD outlet while the Cham block had a fast food restaurant. The campus had a great auditorium and an amphitheatre close to Vedanta. Sporting facilities too were world class as there were recreation rooms in each departmental building and an open play field common for all students of any branches.

Life at DIT was great as we had to be at the university for at least 8 hours a day. The time kept flying as we had so much to do that as we were always short of time and energy. Competitions were held almost every month and MBA students were taught one thing better than even engineering department was to be competitive. So, the campus life made us competent to take on the challenges that we will be facing in future. For all those who weren’t placed it must be hard on them as everyone gave their best but university couldn’t get them placed.
