SJES College of Management Studies MBA Review By Daksh Datta

Bangalore is a city where education is different from the rest. SJES may not be one of the best colleges going around because the admissions are easily available and placement are more or less given, SJES may not be a bad option either. It’s a two-way sword because if you have failed to get placements from UG and also if you haven’t scored well at the entrances to get in colleges like Christ University, St. Joseph's Institute of Management or the others, SJES or such colleges remains the only option. Enough of it as SJES was great and provided us an education that has not just helped us have a campus placement but also empowered us in many ways. The college may not demand high discipline but it didn’t have enough leeway either. Overall, SJES was good in education but here again in the name of extracurricular activities not much to enjoy.

MBA requires a lot of assignment writing and case study solving. We had done that to the core for entire two years which had some mini-breaks in between. Study break, internship break and semester breaks. The pace of the education picked up as soon as the semester started inching closer. So, just like the Indian DNA, as soon as the tail was on fire, everything went messy yet we were on target and passing percentage of the college was close to 80%. We also had the options to clear backlog in one month and that was the best part. Rather than giving up on a semester this method was a boon for students who failed in one or two subjects.

Faculty was not darling to the students but was not ignorant too. Hand-handling was denied but their easy methods and denying shortcuts made us strong. They were highly experienced as all the faculties had at least 10 years and more of experience. The number of faculties was around 15-20 and each one of them played their part well. I did have some limitation against a few but most of them gave their best. Results were up to us as ultimately, we had to learn and move ahead.

Even for regular MBA placements gone a shade better during our batch as Aviation program of SJES didn’t had any problem whatsoever. No matter what people say about the aviation industry, SJES have always been able to place all their students who did Aviation Management. For the regular MBA of which I was also a part the college ensured that maximum students have placements and the placement percentage which was 60 during 2019 was 80 in 2020. We were lucky to have our offer letters and commitment from our employees two months prior to lockdown. There would have been a major turnaround has the lockdown happened a little earlier. So, as I said around 80% people had placements and I was among the majority so pretty happy with the placement part.

Hostel was more of a residential thing here because students were given a flat or a room which was in a building that accounts for somewhat like a residential building. The hostel was inside the campus so that made things easier for us. The rooms were fantastic and food was a little big on me because the food provided was pure veg and me being a Bengali never had vegetarian food for 3 or 4 days at a stretch in my life before. Well, when you stay at hostel you had to adjust few things and adjusting the food was alright as the food provided was good enough.

The block was divided in east and west and our department was at the west end of the block. The block was fantastic as it was clean and well maintained. There was a nice basketball court and a mini playfield at the campus. A small canteen for refreshment and a fitness center that had a yoga room and a gym. The campus even though small had plenty of trees and a tree plantation program was organized every year.

For outsiders the life was fun as meeting people of different states with different domains gave me a lot of learning. Right from the fresher’s day where we were welcomed by our seniors had to give it back to them on farewell day. It was an amazing ride even without many activities. I wish I could have thrown a bit more light on campus life but such was the case that campus life begin with classes and ended with some fun with friends at the hostel and our day was done.
