IMS Unison University BBA Review By Gaurav Kumar

IMS Unison University was quite far from my home but I kind of made up my mind to study here as I heard a lot of good things about the college. BBA was my preferred bet as after opting commerce in higher studies there aren’t much options. The university has a great infrastructure, a great management that look after its students extremely well. There’s no ragging or things where juniors have to obey senior’s orders. In fact, the relationship between juniors and seniors was more of a brotherhood. IMS can be considered among the smaller universities of the state as if I talk about Graphic Era University, they are spread across entire Subhash Nagar area while IMS has a small campus on Mussoorie Road. I had some of the best times here but life would have been complete if I have got campus placements which were hardly any at IMS Unison.

Academic wise the university is brilliant as six semesters and a nice break in between the semesters meant an easy workload. Even the exposure was quite high here as we were taken on business seminars and many renowned business personalities have been invited at the campus too to throw light on how management students can help the corporate expand. One has to get 90 or more percentage in 12th as the cut-off is that high to get admissions here. There were three sections of BBA and had 80 students in each section. First year academically was common for all specializations but then the subjects changed as per the specialization we chose.

Our course had around 20 faculties combining all three years. Just a couple of faculties remained same otherwise the faculty kept changing every year. The crux of the matter is that only specialized faculties were hired to teach specialized subjects. The university has paid highest attention when it comes to faculty as their powers are limited to certain areas. Like, they can’t pull the trigger on students as per their will. Some faculties tried to do that but one complains and they stopped bullying the students. I maintained a good rapport with almost all my faculties and they were the reasons why I was able to enjoy such a cool and calm life at the campus.

This area has gone wrong horribly for the university. Initially the university invited many big names but then came a time when they started overlooking IMS and now only the mediocre or smaller enterprises like Planet Spark, Faircent, Fresh Menu, and Capital Float were the ones that came. They also pitched for the marketing students as finance students couldn’t find any suitable roles with them. Some smart marketing guys managed to crack the code and had placements worth 4 to 5 lakhs per annum. Finance students though left stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Hostel buildings were great and it was more of a flat system. The five-floor hostel building had around 7-8 rooms on each floor. The capacity of the hostel was less but those who stayed at the hostel had a gala time for sure. Since, I wasn’t eligible to stay or even visit the hostels, I had not much to share about the hostels.

The campus area was still big but most of it was unused. There were just four operational buildings and one building was permanently shut down. The classrooms didn’t have AC or the heaters as Dehradun is quite chilling post November and we had to wear a few extra clothes to stay protected. The library was great as it had a common reading hall and even for non-hostellers, the library was allowed to access till 8 pm. The campus has a small cafeteria and the university has arranged food trucks at the campus. From South Indian to Pav Bhaji, everything is available on those food trucks. There’s a small hospital at the campus and was operational 24*7. This was not the only security measure taken at the campus as the entire campus had security cameras and even if somebody leave their belongings behind, they will not have to live with the fear of it getting stolen as camera eye catches every corner of the campus.

To make campus life happening the campus arranges numerous event. From drawing competition to debate competition, everything was done at the IMS Unison campus. The annual fest LAMHE was a student driven fest as a student committee was assigned to take care of the fest. The budget was never an issue as the entire program was sponsored. There are various clubs at the societies and students were open to share their ideas as the university implemented most of the things that students suggested.
