Bidhannagar College B.Sc Review By Aronno Biswas

I am a student of Anthropology Department of Bidhannagar College. Since I am a student of this department, I want to talk about this department of Bidhannagar College first. This is the best department I have seen and experienced. Bidhannagar College is the best college under WBSU in terms of Anthropology subject. After getting enrolled here, I realized that my choice of subject was worthwhile. Like the relationship between students and teachers are so lovely, as well as the good arrangement of all the instruments required for practical. Another reason for the reputation of my department, not only in my department, but also in the entire college is that we have our own museum related to anthropological subject. This is available in very few colleges. Apart from that, the environment of the college is also quite good. In another aspect, the college is very good, because it is ragging free. The college authorities and all the departments are very aware of this.

Bidhannagar College offers BA and B.Sc courses. And to be more precise, only Hons. courses are offered here. No general courses are offered in this college. After passing class 12th, students can apply for admission directly without giving any entrance exam. Almost all common courses of Arts and B.Sc are available here. After completing graduation with Honors from here, students can also complete M.Sc from here if they want.

Since I am studying in this college, I can undoubtedly say that the teachers of my Anthropology department are extraordinary in terms of their education. They are very helpful to the students. It is not possible for me alone to talk about the teachers of every department. However, since I have had to do minor subjects, MDC, SEC, AEC and VAC courses along with the Hons. Course, I have an idea about the teachers of many departments. According to what I have seen, almost all the teachers are Ph.D scholars.

I have not heard of any placement in that sense at the undergraduate level. However, after completing the master's degree, if you have a good relationship with the teachers of the department, you can get various benefits from them regarding placements, as I have seen with my own eyes. However, officially, no direct placement in that sense is given by the college as far as I know.

There is no hostel or residential facilities in my college.

Our Bidhannagar College campus is located in Salt Lake Sector-1, covering a vast area. There are two big buildings in the campus. One is the old building and the other is the new building. The old building is used for B.Sc courses and the new building is used for BA courses. Even all the official functions of the college, student section and Principal's room are also in the new building. There are enough seats for the students in the classrooms in both the buildings. The classrooms are also quite large. Lab and practical instruments are well maintained. There is also a separate canteen for the students. There is a very big playground at the back of the campus for the students. Apart from that, there are a lot of trees throughout the campus. This expresses quite an eco-friendly environment.

As a student of Bidhannagar College, I feel really happy to study from here. All the seniors I’ve met, they are so friendly. They also play with the juniors and help them in their studies and other problems. Every year our college organizes fests, various types of competition, various programs, seminar, inter-departmental sports, annual sports, etc. Along with providing adequate education, our college also takes care of the entertainment of the students.
