Ernakulam has only 3 institutes providing PG in Journalism and Mass Communication. I chose DiST to complete my Post Graduation as they had the best facilities for my field compared to others. They provide a balanced version of both theoretical knowledge as well as practical aspects of the field. With well experienced faculties of the area, MAJMC in DiST will make you career oriented in your favorite area of media. A balanced curriculum of academics and extracurricular activities are encouraged in our institute, with proper importance given to institute fests, sports, and other regional celebrations. BJMC (Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication) course here will make you aware of every aspect of the media field, be it journalism in print or visual media, PR, advertising, entertainment, etc.

Admission to BJMC at DiST requires 50% marks and above aggregate in UG degree. It also requires all the other necessary requirements for PG admission in MG University. You can enroll either through CAP (Centralised Admission Process) of MG University or through DiST’s official website. DiST being affiliated to MG University follows their syllabus for exams but do include whatever is necessary and important for the students. We do get opportunities to enroll for add-on courses on Photography, Videography, and Malayalam typing with typeit software, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Photoshop in different semesters. We also have a partnership with Goodness channel, which helps in gaining practical experience in news reporting and visual media field. If the students are interested, they can also indulge in different internships while completing the course.

Since media studies requires faculty with practical knowledge, DiST hires experienced media personalities from different particular fields. The faculties have a unique approach on teaching, including the use of both online and offline medium. Since they are from the media field, they have access to experts of the field, and thus, they also invite resource persons to take special sessions for the students and also organise industrial visits. Our faculties also help us in forming network, joining internship and grabbing job opportunities for our interested career fields.

We have an active Placement Cell that conducts job fairs every year. Our rich and diverse alumni are either entrepreneurs or employees of reputed companies. They also help us in joining internships and facilitate job offers in their companies.

Our institute has hostel facilities for both male and female students. The boys’ hostel is in the campus while girls’ hostel is within 3 kms from the institute. Since the girls’ hostel is out of institute, there is a free bus service for the female hostellers to travel easily to the institute. Hostels have a single, twin sharing, and triple sharing rooms, with variation in hostel fee as per accommodation facility opted. Food mess service is provided as well.

Our institute has adequate campus facilities in the limited space. We have 3 administrative blocks and one block for hostel / library on the ground floor. One block is on the opposite road adjacent to DePaul school, along with the auditorium. Campus also comprises an open auditorium, volleyball court, basketball court, as well as ample parking space. We have 3 computer labs, an Art lab for Animation department, a gymnasium, and mess facility for hostel students, canteen and reprography facilities for academic supplies and other stationary items.

We have a vibrant campus. Fests, club activities, special events are conducted at regular intervals by each department and clubs. We have 3 major institute fests, one for Management department, one for Social Work Department, and one for the rest of the institute, with many other minor programs, like Commerce fest, Animation and Media fest. Our institute is the most active before this fest as we prep for these fests. We have vibrant celebrations for regional festivals like Onam and Christmas. The School of Professional Department of the institute does organize various inter-collegiate seminars and cultural exchange programs. The Social Work Department has a Student Exchange Program with University of James Cook, Australia.
