National Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Aashish Kumar

Earlier, I was not about to take admission here but as the situations changed after my JEE Mains result, this institute was offering me the best I could get based on my rank, Information Technology. I searched about this institute and got mixed reviews. Somehow I finally decided to take admission here. Honestly, I had very little expectations from this institute because of its low NIRF ranking but my every opinion proved to be wrong as I came here. My experience till now has been wonderful. The infrastructure of this institute is appreciable.

To get admission in NIT Jalandhar you should have at least 75% in boards and a decent percentile in JEE Mains. If you want to pursue engineering and you could not perform very well in JEE Advance or Mains itself and you cannot afford top private colleges like BITS Pilani, Thapar and more, than you can definitely consider this institute for your B.Tech degree.

All teachers are well qualified with a degree not less than Ph.D. Some of the teachers even have a postdoc from foreign countries. Teachers as far as experienced are supportive and helpful but very few of them give marks easily in exams, rest try their best to give you a hard challenge to obtain good marks in exams. The exam papers made by them are on a bit tougher side.

Our institute has a placement cell and its does its best to help students acquire jobs but for good job offers, there is too much competition and so only the best can get the best.

NIT Jalandhar has 10 boy’s hostel and 3 girl’s hostel. I have got BH-1 (boy’s hostel 1) for 1st year and the facilities here are way better than I had imagined for any hostel. I had never even dreamt that I could get such delicious food in any hostel mess. I never felt need to go to the cafeteria to have a lunch or breakfast. Some dishes are even better than that cooked at my home and I am not kidding when I write it. Though some seniors told us that it's only in the first year that we get the food this good. We get three meals in a day and snacks in the evening. The hostel also has a badminton court, a volleyball court and an indoor games room where there are indoor games like chess and carrom board and table tennis. The best part of BH-1 hostel which makes it the best among all the 13 hostels is that we have a computer lab in our hostel apart from reading room. There are about 10 to 12 computers and all have an i7 processor CPU which is fantastic.

The campus has separate building for each branch of engineering like IT Building, Computer Science department and all. Apart from that there are two libraries. One has thousands of books for issuing by students. It doesn't have AC but fans. The second library is a new one it has three floors, all fully air conditioned and has hundreds of computers. It is my favorite spot in the institute campus till date. It's a bit busy in exam times though.

My experience has been wonderful. I have got to meet students from across all over the country and learn about their experiences, cultures and festivals. There are lots of clubs like modeling, drama, dance, sports and many cultural clubs as well. Technical fests and sports fests are also conducted to provide students with opportunities to show their skills. I got a bronze medal at chess tournament which was one of the events under sports fest and I loved it.
