Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (NIT Surat) is one of the renowned institutes in India, which offers a 4-year B.Tech degree for Engineering students in various domains, as well as 5-year integrated M.Sc. degree in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for Science students. As an institute of National importance, it provides crucial platform for students to gain significant exposure to career opportunities. The campus has an area of nearly 250 acres and includes departmental buildings, 9 hostels (7 for boys, 1 for girls, and a guest house), a large sports ground, a GYM, indoor sports facilities, and a well resourced central library. Additionally, the institute is located in a prosperous neighborhood. A positive aspect of its location is that it's in Surat, also known as diamond city, which is a home to crude oil refining, chemical plants, diamonds and textiles.

I am pursuing Integrated Master's degree in Applied Physics. The coursework and curriculum for my course is relevant and very helpful for those who want to dive into the research field in various domains. Many students from our branch got selected for DAAD wise Internship Program, which is one of the most prestigious foreign scholarships, and is provided by various German institutes. Moreover, the coursework of branch helps students to crack various physics competitive exams like CSIR NET, GATE, JEST, TIFR, BARC, etc. JEE Mains is the entrance exam to get into this institute.

According to my experience which I have so far, our faculties are well-educated and have completed their PhDs from prestigious institutes. Many professors are very interactive with the students and provide valuable guidance for the students whenever any student approaches to them. Two of our faculties' are also enlisted in top 2% scientists' in the list released by Harvard University.

There is a separate Training and Placement Cell which guides students for their placements. NIT Surat is known mostly for its placement rate in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments. Hence, rate is very high for these two branches due to various chemical industries in Surat. As per the data of 2024, average package for CSE department is 15.86 LPA and highest is 52 LPA. Overall, placement rate for B.Tech batch of 2024 was 65.47%.

Hostels here are well-maintained with all the facilities available. Many hostel rooms have balcony, and in each room, there are maximum 2 students. Moreover, the hostel area is not much far from the department area. For PhD, married couples, and M.Tech students, there is separate hostel for each. Each hostel has good mess facility. For the freshers there is also separate hostel and strict actions are taken in case of ragging.

The institute is currently under-construction, and many departmental buildings are being renovated. As well as, the new administrative building is going to be constructed within 2-3 years. The central library is amazing as it has good interior and well-maintained AC rooms, common hall for reading, and a separate section for personal studies.

The institute has varied types of Students Chapter Clubs such as Drishti for Tech, as well as CHRD for cultural. ‘Mind-bend’, biggest techno managerial fest of Gujarat is organized by this institute. It also organizes a cultural fest known as 'Sparsh' for which renowned celebrities are invited. Along with it, there is a fresher’s party known as 'Kashish,' for new incoming students is also there. The institute also celebrates various festivals, among which it has a grand celebration of 'Navratri'. Overall, the institute is best as per my acknowledgement and experience.
