Ghaziabad today has become one of the top cities for education. Thousands of students from other parts of India come to Ghaziabad for studies as it has become that big. Out of that, a very significant chunk is because of IMS. KIET Group of Institutions and Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College are not far behind, but IMSEC is a better and bigger name than those institutes. Having said that, it feels fain in saying that the college hasn’t done great on all fronts. One thing for which college gets ten on ten is its discipline. You can’t come to college wearing rugged jeans or worn-out clothes. Attendance also has to be 75% or be ready to call your parents and get humiliated by management. Many people call IMSEC as Primary school because of its rules and all but this is why the students of IMSEC are doing so well. So, yes, there are some negatives but equally good positives about IMSEC. If you look at the larger picture, all my classmates who didn’t even went for higher studies after studying from here are at decent positions in just six years of their professional careers.

The college is under UPTU, so the course content and all are similar to other UPTU colleges. About UPTU colleges, the typical sentence is, after all, it’s a UPTU college. Things aren’t that grey for IMSEC, though, because even though they don’t teach anything out of the syllabus, they make sure they are up to mark with the existing syllabus. UPTU passing ratio is 40% overall, but of IMSEC, its 70, so you can imagine how strict the college must be for academics. One has to rely on classes and self-study to score well, as college alone won’t be enough.

Because I am only familiar with IT and CS department faculty, both the department faculty rocks. HOD is always busy satisfying their ego because they complain too much. However, their teaching skills don’t need any critical examination because they were at their best in teaching. They gave us many innovative ideas and projects and ensured that students were funded from the college itself. Faculty, on the whole, has too much power here, and therefore maintaining good terms with them is inescapable.

The college has one of the best placement cells and faculties, and HOD has no role there. So, one can relax as too many ideas during placements spoil the party. The placement cell is clear and gives a clear idea of how and what to pitch. Academic plays a huge role here because the kind of job you will get will be based entirely on your marks until the seventh semester. Before the placements, we had to go through a lot of pre-placement planning and work. The placement cell helped us brush up on our behavioral, technical, and communication skills. A total of close to 300 out of 480 students including CS and IT department and half of them were placed in Infosys and TCS as they were the only recruiters.

Thank God I didn’t stay at the hostel because my friends stayed there, and the things that they said were unbelievable. I agree the hostel fees of IMSEC are much lesser than other private institutions, but the kind of rooms and facilities that they have is beggarly. The rooms are cleaned once in a week, and students staying there have made the rooms a smoker’s den. The food provided was more impoverished than the mid-day meals in the government schools. The college is good, and there are many paying guest facilities for boys and girls. So rather than staying in such hostels, you should stay at your convenience.

Comparing the college’s infrastructure with the likes of ABES would be like comparing oranges with apples. Firstly, IMSEC is very small in area as the entire college premises are less than 10 acres of land. In that, there are three academic blocks, one basketball court, and a huge parking area. So, the area for a playground is omitted. Today, almost all the private colleges have ACs in the classrooms but not IMSEC. The labs and everything else were of mediocre quality. I have tried my best to get over the greys and find some blues about the infrastructure, but please excuse me for this.

The college’s technical fest is the best among UPTU colleges as no other UPTU college even came close to us. The things were exactly the opposite for cultural fest as students have to spend from their pocket to learn dance or whatever they want to do. The college gives a tiny little budget, and in that, they want a Bollywood night. So, one should focus on academics at IMSEC as apart from that, the college has very little to offer. The campus needs some development, and also the college should promote extra-curricular activities on a large scale to make campus life for students worth remembering.
