One of the oldest Engineering institutes in the country, IIT Dhanbad combines academic excellence with a very active campus life. Especially well regarded for its Mining and Earth Science courses. The institution has recently extended its range to excellent programs in Computer Science, Mathematics and Electronics. The vast campus is abundant with nature, modern infrastructure and amenities. Strong placement, myriad extracurricular and technical fests throughout the year that students have something to look forward to than just classes.

It has a pretty strong academic curriculum. It has always excelled in its conventional courses in Mining and Petroleum engineering. The curriculum is flexible and offers electives as well as interdisciplinary studies. A good amount of research is promoted. Though the academic rigor is high, the institute supports students in raising the level of preparation for challenges in the real world.

The faculty consists of highly qualified individuals, with many having completed PhDs from some of the most reputed universities in India and abroad. They are very approachable and helpful. They encourage students to take up research and think critically. While some professors follow traditional methods of pedagogy, most of them have already switched to more modern and interactive form of teaching. Faculty often participate in cutting edge research that students have multiple opportunities to involved in.

The campus has a strong placement cell, which every year hosts number of top companies from industries, be it Technology or Core, or Consulting, Oil and Gas, Mining, or Finance. Many top service based companies offer packages of competitive level. The placement percentage is high, with most students landing in reputed companies offering high salaries. The core engineering sector, like Mining, Petroleum and consulting also do well in term of placement. Internships can also be grabbed through placement drives with a latter chance of getting converted to full time job.

The hostels are every well maintained and provide fairly comfortable living for both UG and PG students. The girl’s and boy’s hostels are separated by few kilometers. Amenities such as Wi-Fi, reading room, mess, and recreation rooms are provided. Food served in different hostel varies. The rooms are clean and are provided with furniture, fans, and study table. Accommodation is generally on a sharing basis, and single rooms are provided to senior students. The hostel is lively with a lot of peer interaction, events, and late night study groups.

The buildings and classrooms are fully equipped. Some of them have ACs. There is a huge library and great sports infrastructure. Both indoor and outdoor sports are encouraged and supported. It is self sufficient in terms of health care along with many canteens and a shopping complex. Classrooms are spacious, fitted with modern equipment like projectors. Some of the newer buildings are commissioned by DOPV and others are nearing completion. Our campus is beautiful, green oasis with large grounds for sports and extracurricular activities. The Student Activity Centre offers a variety of options, including a free GYM and swimming pool. Located at the center of the city, the campus provides easy access to markets and food joints, with plenty of eateries available on campus as well.

The highlight of year is our grand cultural and tech fests, where students showcase their talents in a vibrant and exciting atmosphere, creating unforgettable memories for everyone.
