Miranda House College B.Sc Review By Richa Kaushik

Miranda House is a women's college and has a very tight security for making it safe for its students. The college has a very highly educated faculty. All teachers are Ph.D from renowned institutes like IIT's and DU. College has maintained a rank 1st from last 7 years though this year it was ranked 2nd. College also has a very beautiful infrastructure and large gardens with lots of greenery, exotic plants, and beautiful flowers. The college also has a very relevant curriculum. Miranda also organizes yearly fest with that many fests keep happening like Diwali mela, department fest, department freshers, college freshers, society fests, and so on.

I'm a student of B.Sc (Hons.) Physics. We have a large faculty team with extremely educated teachers some of which are IITians as well. To get this particular course a student needs to take the CUET UG exam and the subjects required are Math, Chemistry, and Physics. Students without Math cannot opt for this course. Then based on the score a student gets and the merit list declared by the college the student gets the college. for this college you need to score a decent amount as a sum of the above three subjects. My motive for enrolling in this program was that I wanted to go for further studies for M.Sc Ph.D. and further research of professor but apart from this if you want go for an MBA then in the interview if you say you are from Miranda House then it a positive aspect as it’s a very renowned college.

The faculty members of my course are very highly educated from renowned institutes and with very high teaching experience. One of my professors Dr. Monika Tomar is among the world's top 2% of scientists from a report from NASA. All teachers are extremely approachable and always willing to help out students even with personal and professional problems. I have even seen teachers paying fees for students who couldn't afford it. The teaching is done mostly through chalk and board but if necessary projectors are also used.

Yes, there is a placement cell in the college but my course B.Sc (Hons.) Physics can't provide a student with campus placement as it's not a specialization course so if students are willing to get a job just after college then they can go for government exams like UPSC, SSC, CGL, and so on. Colleges provide internships but for my department, the internship is to teach students about research like B.Tech colleges which pay high amounts for internships. But students can also do internships on their own if they want to.

The college provides hostel facilities, and the Miranda hostel is very pretty with health care facilities and psychiatrists for counseling students who have problems and also there are very pretty gardens in the hostel. Hostel students are also taken out for visits to places like IIT Delhi and others. Food is also fine in the Miranda hostel but ACs is not there in the hostel. In summer children suffer because of the hot weather. Miranda House also has an open gym for students so the hostel students to exercise whenever they find it suitable. The hostel is extremely affordable but the problem with the hostel is that there are very limited seats so not all students get the seat. The seats are provided based on merit but reservations are also there in the hostel. People who are from Delhi NCR don't get seats in the hostel.

The college has a different science block which has its separate building and the art block is huge with so many rooms. Miranda House has a huge library that provides books in hard and soft copies. Miranda House has 2 canteens, a Nescafe shop and a normal snacks store. One of the canteens provides home-based food and the other one has everything except the thali system. the larger canteen also has a juice center and fast counter. Wifi is always available in the college. some rooms have air conditioning, not all rooms. Our department has excellent lab infrastructure with labs like computer Labs, Laptop Labs, Mechanical Labs, Dark Rooms, Robotics Labs, more.

Campus life in Miranda House is very calm yet fun; there are stalls every other day. There are many fests except the one yearly fest of the college. Departmental fests and different societies also have their fests. Miranda House has so many societies like dramatic society, northeastern society, and so many others which lead to the overall development of students. Festivals are also celebrated like Onam or Navaratri, and so on. In the Tempest (yearly fest), it is a two-day event. Different departments have their own programs like senior professor talks, alumni talks, and so on. Miranda House supports sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball, Handball, Martial Arts, etc.
