National Institute of Technology (NITs) is a group of technical institutes that are centrally funded by the Government of India. NIT Rourkela is a premier institute of national importance which stands at 19th position in engineering and 3rd best among all the 31 NITs. It boasts excellent placement records as well as world-class research facilities. I chose to study at NIT Rourkela because of the good quality of education facilities that it provides, strong industrial ties, great alumni network, and the huge lush green campus. It is indeed one of the best places to study where you will find intelligent and like-minded peers who come here after having secured a good rank in JEE.

NIT Rourkela has various programs to offer like B.Tech, M.Tech. Dual Degree, B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc, MBA, and Ph.D across various disciplines. The admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc, and Dual Degree is based on JEE rank followed by JOSAA counseling. Admission to M.Tech is based on the GATE exam followed by CCMT counseling. Admission to 2 year M.Sc is based on JAM followed by CCMN counseling. For MBA it is done through CAT. Ph.D is based on an internal selection procedure. For engineering, there are 13 departments like Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Biotechnology, Mechanical, etc.

The faculty of our institute is very highly qualified. Most of them hold Ph.D from prestigious universities abroad. They are very friendly and approachable. 25 faculty of our institute have been recognized as the top 2 percent scientist in the world by the Stanford University. They are involved in big research projects and have good ties with industries too.

We have a very active and dedicated career development cell (CDC) that looks after the smooth and progressive implementation of placements, internships, and training. It consists of a committed team of professors and student coordinators who manage all the formal communication between reputed companies and the students sitting for internships and placements. It has connections with top companies like Google, Amazon, Intel, Ford, Oracle, Deloitte, etc. Nearly all the students sitting for placements get placed with the highest package touching 90 LPA and the average being 12 - 14 LPA.

The hostels are all very big, with facilities like a day canteen, night canteen, gym, indoor sports, and air-conditioned study rooms. Hygiene is maintained properly. The hostel in-timing for girls is midnight, for boys, there are no such restrictions. All the hostels are mostly double sharing but some are triple and some single as well. Mess food is not that bad but not that good too.

NIT Rourkela has a sprawling campus of 647 acres with lavish greenery, situated at the junction of two hills in the steel city of Rourkela, in Odisha. Each department has its building along with 2 big lecture hall complexes equipped with all the digital amenities for effective learning. The campus has state of art infrastructure rendered with very good Wi-Fi connectivity. The campus hosts a fully air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of over 1500. There is also a central library facilitating academia and research. The sporting facilities are one of the best in the country including an aquatic sports facility, hockey stadium, cricket stadium, etc. There are also two guest houses inside the campus for the visitors.

Campus life is very vibrant. Being an institute of national importance, it has people from all the different states of the country and even from abroad thus enriching the overall institute experience. Over 50 different clubs are functioning on campus catering to everyone's interests like coding, poetry, public speaking, drama, etc. The campus is very big and beautiful and always buzzing with people with different activities and spots to pursue after classes. There are a few restaurants inside the campus to chill with your friends. We are also allowed to go out of the campus. Rourkela City has many good places to hang out.
