As an Electronics student at IIT Roorkee, my time here has been a balanced mix of academics and extracurricular. Though we carry the "circuital" tag, I’ve tried out for various clubs, including Fine Arts, making multiple attempts to join. The campus is full of opportunities if you're willing to explore beyond the classroom. When it comes to Competitive Programming (CP) and contests like ICPC offer solid exposure. A great peer group exists too—if you reach out and connect with the right people, you'll find plenty of support and inspiration.

I joined Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) program at IIT Roorkee after securing a rank of 1206 in my second attempt at JEE Advanced. Honestly, I was thrilled to be within the top 2000. The course offers a mix of theory and hands-on work, covering everything from basic circuits to advanced topics like signal processing. It’s challenging but builds a solid foundation for both industry and research.

So about Faculties, Some even treat more like a friend and some are very strict. It can be in their grading system to teaching methodology. I was more inclined towards software so I reached out some professors of CSE Department to indulge myself in some projects and it was really great exposure for me and I got to learn a lot. But nowadays some faculties are not up to the level of institute (not more than 5). But yeah overall teaching facilities are good and well structured.

I currently am having my placement season as I am in my final year. Except last year, placement stats have been good all the time. But I have seen decline in numbers of placement in Civil and Chemical branch. Throughout the year, the placement cell coordinates campus recruitment drives, inviting a wide range of companies—from startups to multinational corporations.

I live in Bhawan called Govind Bhawan here. I never had any difficulty here, although it is an old bhawan compared to others but I do have balconies in my gallery room. Just downstairs, we have our college and night canteens. Freshmen get the best hostel on campus (trust a senior on that). Rooms for freshmen are either single or double sharing. Either way, they are the big enough. It can be said that IITR has one of the biggest hostels (Bhawans) among IITs.

IIT Roorkee boasts impressive infrastructure. The centrally air-conditioned classrooms and well-equipped libraries, along with Wi-Fi throughout the campus, create an impressive learning environment. The sports facilities are excellent, featuring a swimming pool, gym, and courts for badminton, basketball, and lawn tennis, allowing students to stay active. A standout for me is the Thomson Building—it's massive and calm, providing a motivating atmosphere for all students. Overall, the infrastructure significantly enhances the IIT Roorkee experience.

As someone from a metro city, I expected Roorkee to be dull, but it’s surprisingly vibrant. While there aren’t huge malls for shopping or hanging out, stores of major brands are conveniently located near campus. Places nearby Roorkee are a perfect for weekend getaways. Popular spots like Mussoorie, Dhanolti, Rishikesh, Shimla, Delhi, Nainital, Jim Corbett, Devprayag, and Lansdowne are all easily accessible with a bike trip. The campus is beautiful, especially the James Thomson Building. Living here means enjoying lush greenery and fresh air. Overall, the campus life here is really impressive and satisfying.
