IIEST is second oldest Engineering Institute in India. Alumni network is very strong and campus life is too good. Connectivity is also very good Howrah, Salimar and Sealdah stations are very near to the institute and airport is also less than 10 KM away. Research opportunities are too good and placements are also very nice. I took admission in this institute because it is oldest, faculties are very good as well as very good research opportunities and placements are also good compared to other NITs.

The academics in this institute are bit hectic but if you manage your classes as well as other stuff then it is ok and There are B.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech (integrated) along with PG and PhD courses are available. There are total 9+1 UG (9 B.Tech & 1 B.Arch) and 6 PG departments in the institute. You can enroll in this institute by clearing JEE Mains for undergraduate courses.

In Mechanical, there will be around 22 to 23 faculty members. Their teaching style is too good. Approximately, all of them have completed their Doctorate from foreign universities. There style of teaching is very unique and they teach in good way but not every professor is unique and knowledgeable in their field of teaching.

Placement is also nice. There will be opportunities for both off and on campus placements. Companies like Accenture, PWC, Wipro, Microsoft, Mahindra, Tata Steel and many more are visiting every year for on-campus placements.

Hostels are very old because institute was established in 1856 but proper renovation is going on every year. New hostel that can accommodate around 1000 students is also under construction for both boys and girls. For UG and PG, hostels are separate. Each year of UG has separate hostels and hostel is providing their respective separate mess facilities. Proper water, Wi-Fi and 24×7 electricity supply is provided in every hostel. For girls, there will be 3 hostels 1 for 1st UG and PG girls and facilities are same as that of boy’s hostels. Food quality is good and non-vegetarian food option is also available which is very good and quality is good for boys and girls both.

There are 2 academic buildings where classes for every year are running. 1st is Science and Technology building and 2nd is Main Building. Science and Technology Building classes are for 1st year boys and girls and mainly officially works are running there. In the main building, classes of all the years from 2nd to 4th year are running and PG classes. Others buildings are also there for clubs and societies which is running by students. One Institute Hall is made for all programs and functions. Many other Building for other purposes.

Campus life is good. Besides studies, there are 17 club activities in which different type of competitions and many fests are organized. Every month, at least 2 to 3 fests are organized and approximately every festival is celebrated in the institute. ‘Rebecca’ is oldest cultural fest and ‘Instro’ is Techno Management fest of our institute. You have too much things to explore in studies as well as in extracurricular activities.
