I am happy to be a part of IIT Kharagpur and call myself a KGPian. I have learnt a lot here and gained a lot of experience and yet 1 year is more to go. The campus life and friends here have been the best and if you want to grow and do something in life, IITs has to be the best platforms. I chose this institute since I heard it was the best. Sometimes there is an academic pressure on us but that is a part of life, and you will somehow learn to deal with it.

Admission to the courses of IIT Kharagpur is done by JOSSA counseling where we get the institute and the course. After joining, the students are taught in different domains irrespective of their specific branch in the first year whether it is Electronics, Mechanical, Embedded System, Biology, and many more. From second year of institute, students are separated according to their branch and are taught specifically. The institute also provides an option to change the branch after first year based on a ranking system of CGPA. It also provides other academic options like Minor DEGREE, Major DEGREE, MICROS and Additional. Minor Degree can be done in specific domain apart from your Major Degree in your branch. Additional subjects could be learnt as per your own interest.

The faculties of IIT Kharagpur are intelligent and have excelled in their specific domain of study. They have earned awards and titles for their projects and conferences. The faculty is good in teaching. Most of them are the natives of West Bengal. Some professors are supportive enough and give proper guidance asked for. A few of them are not that great with coping up with students. The classrooms are the best and are air conditioned. The academic material provided by the professors is enough to learn many things. Some professors are even strict about the class attendance.

Yes, IIT Kharagpur does have a Placement Cell in the institute consisting of Placement Committee Members. They invite the companies to the institute and act as the coordinators of the placement and internships. The placements and internships are conducted in phases and invites companies based on the stipend or CTC they provide. They guide the students in giving the tests and interviews for the placements and internships.

Yes, we do have residential facilities here. The hostels are called Halls here to give a feeling of togetherness and the culture of halls is practiced keeping the bond of KGPian family as one. The infrastructure of all the Halls (27) is great and well maintained. All the facilities from mess to sports and recreational activities are really good. The hostel life is fun and engaging with various events organised throughout the year like Illumination, Rangoli, General championships, etc.

The Campus of IIT Kharagpur has a marvelous infrastructural design; be it the Main Building, Taxashila, Vikramshila, or Gymkhana. The Campus is well covered with trees and has well maintained roads. We have lakes and prominent locations, and we also planned the layouts for the food outlets. Large playgrounds and departmental buildings cover the campus area strategically. The Nalanda Building has many classrooms, and the largest library of Asia is also situated here.

The Campus life is one of the best here and you will get best exposure. I guess it’s the largest campus among all IITs with largest number of branches educating largest number of students. There are many clubs here focusing on different domains like Business, Technology, Product, Finance, Research, Fests, Cultural, and many more. The two major fests here are Kshitij, the Techno-Management Fest and Spring Fest, & the Cultural Fest. It takes place in the month of January and is popular in India.
