Katwa College has a B+ NAAC grade as per the latest data. The college is focusing on overall development and implementing continuous developmental programs for the students. Overall, my experience was not so good and not so bad. "Not so good" because it lacks in some ways. For example, the college had a sports place but it was controlled by the student union only and normal students were sometimes denied entry. "Not so bad" because I enjoyed my 3 years of college, and had some awesome professors who always supported me.

The admission process of Katwa College is completely online, based on class 12th marks, preferred courses and availability of seats. First, it conducts a general counseling process and at the end to fill the vacant seats it conducts an open counseling. The admission process is smooth here. As the admission is completely online, there is less chance of corruption. Overall, the college always tries to provide enough classes to complete the semester syllabus. Though there is a shortage of faculty in some departments, the college always tries to at least complete the whole syllabus including practical.

The faculty of Katwa College is not sufficient for specific departments like Physiology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, etc. If I talk about my department, there was no permanent HOD. There was one assistant HOD, 3 professors (1 of them was temporary on a 2-year contract) and 2 lab assistants. Because of the shortage of the faculty, classes were not properly completed. The faculty aspect can be better for Katwa College for specific departments.

In terms of placements, Katwa College does not have an active placement cell. However, in my third year of B.Sc (Hons.), there was a seminar regarding placements. A total of 3 companies (including Rudra Hyundai) visited our campus and conducted a placement drive. At first, they conducted training sessions, and then they proceeded with the placement process. I was not a part of the placement process as it was for the passed-out students only. After the placement process, around 12-15 students got selected.

Katwa College has two hostels dedicated to boy’s students and girl’s students. The boys' hostel has a capacity of 85 students while the girls' hostel has a capacity of 52 students currently. According to me, the hostel could be neater and have better infrastructure. More than 2500 students take admission at Katwa College every year and 60% of them come from rural areas beside Katwa. 85 capacity of the boys' hostel and 52 capacity of the girls' hostel are not sufficient for a good college.

If I talk about my Physiology Department of Katwa College, the infrastructure could be better. The student capacity in my department was only around 20-25 which is very less. Besides, we didn't have enough instruments needed for various experiments of Physiology practical. The college only focuses on infrastructure when the NAAC team visits the college. Recently, when I visited the college, the college had a better infrastructure than what we had in our times.

An annual fest is conducted every year by the Katwa College’s student union. Besides the annual fest, they also conduct annual sports championships and other regular events like International Mother Tongue Day conducted by the Bengali department. Recently, Katwa College has also started add-on courses for its students. In this course, they can choose among a lot of non-academic subjects like Karate and Self-defense, Handcrafts, Music, etc. Katwa College has planned to give points for the performance on these courses also.
