First of all, after clearing the toughest exam in the world and entering the institute which comes under the top 5 NITs feels worth it. I chose this institute because of its location which falls in my home state and its record of providing good placements. This NIT is known for its majestic campus, greenery spread everywhere. In NIRF ranking, it always at tops of list. Hideous acts such as ragging is strictly prohibited in the campus

I am enrolled in the Electrical Engineering department of the institute. My department is considered as the toughest branch of Engineering and it requires regular studies. For this, we need to give the Joint Entrance Examination and secure a ninety percentile or above to get a seat. To be eligible for this exam, we need to secure a 75% or above marks in boards exam. To clear this exam, it requires a lot of hard work which makes us capable to handle pressure and to solve big problems in our life also. The motive is to get a good placement by maintaining a good CGPA.

The faculties here are professional and experienced. Most of them have completed their PhDs from reputed IITs. The teaching methodology is old fashioned but they ensure that no doubt trouble us. They also solve our problems which are not related to academics. Some of the professors are very strict in marking. If you are not able to explain the answers well, the step marking is also not given.

Our hostel name is Hall of Residence. There are nine Halls of Residence, seven for boys and two for girls. It is considered as one of the biggest hostels in India. Reading room, TV room, gymnasium and sports facilities like table tennis, basketball, badminton, chess, and carom are available. The hostel view is literally good. Enjoying rainy days standing in the terrace is a loving experience. Mess facilities are good. The mess food is good but need some improvement. The authorities are very concerned on the hygiene.

There are respective department buildings for each department. The classrooms are air conditioned. Digital boards and projectors are available in each and every class to ensure effective study. There is a central library named Biju Patnaik Central Library which consists of books, journals. Wi-Fi facilities are provided in libraries. There are stadiums for sports like cricket and football. There is a health center for students which provide free medicines for treatment. There are restaurants, juice counters and shops for necessary requirements. The institute conducts many fests which are enjoyed by students wholeheartedly. There is also a swimming pool in which competitions take place.

The campus life is very exciting. Interaction with seniors helps us solve daily problems. The seniors here are very helpful. There are up to 90 clubs which students to pursue their interest. Technical clubs, cultural clubs, robotic clubs are mainly interest and attraction. ‘Innovation’ is the annual technical fest of our institute. ‘Nitrustav’ is the annual cultural fest. There is another fest named ‘Smarak’ which is annual Civil Engineering fest in NIT Rourkela. Every year, there are inter NIT competition in which all the NITs compete with full enthusiasm. Students are required to participate in activities like yoga, NSS, NCC which is mandatory. The institute also celebrates the festivals of all states which help all the students to know about the culture of all states in India.
