GIBS Business School PGDM Review By Ranjana Shekhawat

GIBS is located in south Bangalore and is among the top ranked PG colleges in the city. Of course, it wasn’t my first choice as my sister did her MBA from St. Joseph and I was targeting the same college but I wish I was that smart. Anyways GIBS wasn’t bad at all as GIBS too is one of the best colleges if one compares the facilities with St. Joseph's Institute of Management or Christ University. GIBS guarantees placement maybe not of magnitude like IIM-Bangalore or Christ but they have made sure that their students are placed in top companies and they get a good run. The placements impressed me the most as my competition was my elder sister and I was close to getting the package she had. Other than industry connection the college also has good infrastructure and most importantly very good hostels. The college has experienced professors and one that supports students in all their endeavors.

PGDM in finance is a best study as many CA students who were pursuing the same course also felt nervous. Getting in-depth knowledge of subjects and then learning the same by working with top industry during internship helped me get the complete know how of financial industry. Finance is the main aspect of any industry today and that is why students of finance were in demand from all the companies that came for placements. Academic also included many mock or virtual interviews. Industry oriented projects and fine lining of each subject in detail was the way to go at GIBS. Just before the final exams, the covid striked and so the exams were postponed and after a lot of protocols the exams finally happened in July 2020.

If one thinks that business school hires any ordinary teacher than that is a joke. Likewise, GIBS too have copied top B-Schools and brought some of the brightest faculty for students. Our faculty was hardworking and made us the same. Their knowledge and compassion made me their biggest cheerleader. At any point in time, if one has any doubts, the faculty would never take a back seat and rather play on front foot to help them out.

All this while I have boasted the placements of the college and finally, I will be writing on that. Well, the placements were great and it's because of the companies that had come. It started in the middle of third semester when we were done with our internship and we all had a fair idea on how the industry works. The mocks started and virtual interviews were being conducted. Students were asked to such interviews on their own and then were played in the classrooms on big screen. Top recruiters of our batch include IBM, Toyota, Bata, Puma, Nike, Oppo, Amazon and many more. The average pay scale was 6 lakhs and its high because 2-3 students got close to 12-13 lakhs. Otherwise though, it was 5-6 lakhs. All jobs and roles offered were for Bangalore city.

The girl’s hostel was inside the campus and it was a building of four floors. Six rooms on each floor and each room had three to four girls. The first two floors were for UG students while the top two for PG students. I didn’t want to stay at the hostel and therefore I didn’t even apply. The hostels though were great as the rooms were more of a flat. They had a hall and a room. One girl had to adjust in hall while two has to be accommodated in the room. The washrooms were common and it was the only turn off for me because everything else about the hostel was fine but the washroom parts no chance. The boy's hostel was outside the campus and it was big as compared to girl's hostel, it had thrice the capacity.

The building is amazing as the campus is not huge but a building of five floors which looked like a mall, one hostel building and a little open space. Coming to the facilities that it had, it had an auditorium that will fail any multiplex as it had the best sound system and seating facilities. Apart from that there was a separate conference room, a creativity room, yoga room, dance room, indoor gaming room, etc. The parking lot was small as most students used public transport and even the college had two buses that had divided the areas between them. On the ground floor of the building there was a waiting lounge and a reception. The cafeteria was an open café with bamboo chairs and a small royal table. Even though small but the campus will make anyone fall in love with it.

There are many societies that were operational at campus but because I was staying 12 miles far from the college, I had to rush back once we were done with the classes. All the fun that I had at GIBS was in classes or at the common rooms where all students would gather in-between lectures and breaks. It’s because I didn’t enjoyed much at GIBS doesn’t mean GIBS had not much to offer. The students who were actively participating at events and societies had a lot of fun at GIBS.
