Choosing institutes has always been difficult after the announcement of JEE Advanced results. Many students would wish to join IITB, IITM, IITK, IITD, and IITG, however hardly any would be fortunate to join them. Many times, students are stuck between choosing an "old" IIT due to its brand value, fests, and resilience; and a "new" IIT because of their JEE Advanced ranks. IIT Dhanbad is a blessing in such a case. The beautiful infrastructure, full-fledged facilities, an amazing brand value and alumni support are IIT ISM Dhanbad’s stand out factors. One can get admission to this institute with a rank that is needed for admission in IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Indore.

IIT ISM Dhanbad offers different courses which include MBA, B.Tech, and M.Tech. M.Sc and Ph.D. JEE Advanced is the primary and only method to get admission in a B.Tech course at IIT Dhanbad while M.Tech admissions are done through GATE scores. For B.Tech, there are 14 disciplines offered by the institute. The highest cutoff is for CSE. i.e. (around 2000 for General Category), while the lowest cutoff is for Mining Machinery Engineering (around 15000 for General Category).

Faculties at IIT Dhanbad are great and many have some of the best academic qualifications form the finest institutes of the world. Many faculties are active researchers in their domains and provide world-class insights to the students in the corresponding domains through their experience and knowledge. Some faculties have industry partnerships with experts from various leading companies and if your course allows, they will take you for industrial visits at their personal expense too. Yes, the college has a Placement Team and is functioning very aptly. One does not need to worry about placements at IIT Dhanbad. As stated above, IIT Dhanbad has a great brand value and alumni support in the name of Indian School of Mines i.e. ISM. The Placement Team or Placement Committee is successful in inviting some of the best companies to our campus which actively hires the students such as Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, PwC, Atlassian, Sprinkler, TATA group, JSW, British Petroleum, Chevron, Samsung Research Institute Noida/Bangalore, D.E Shaw, and many more.

Hostels at IIT Dhanbad aren't very great; most of the hostels are old having an average infrastructure. There is a new 13-floor hostel inaugurated at the campus with fresh and modern infrastructure. However, it is to note that despite old infrastructure, all basic facilities such as safe drinking water, warm water, high-speed unlimited Wi-Fi and substantial mess facilities are provided to the students at affordable rates.

IIT ISM is a mix of modern and old infrastructure. The institute was initially inaugurated in 1926 and since then it’s a mix of British and new Indian infrastructure. From heritage building to new NVCTI, CRF and NLHC or even new hostels, the infrastructure is for sure well maintained and renovated regularly.

There are 3 fests conducted in a year. The clubs in both technical and cultural domains are really good. Just as a fact IIT ISM stood 7th overall in the Inter IIT Cultural meet held at IIT KGP in December 2023. The institute provides a competitive coding culture through coding societies and continuous Hackathons conducted throughout the year.
