Scottish Church College B.A Review By Aratrika Mandal

Scottish Church was founded by Alexander Duff in the 1830. It is a Christian minority college but everyone can get admission here. I chose this college because it is a highly reputed college in Kolkata with respect to both its education and environment. It seems after spending 2 years here that I really had good experience here and am really happy that I chose this college.

The college provides several courses such as B.A Hons., B.Sc Hons., B.A general, BBA, B.Com, etc. The college's official website provides all the details about the programmers & eligibility for admission. I'm a student pursuing Political science hons. I researched about the course and I'm extremely satisfied getting into SCC. The course has enlightened me and made me confident about the domain.

There are four professors teaching in our department. All of them are Ph.D holders and have completed their studies from reputed colleges and Universities. Our respected professors are highly specialised in particular domains of political science. All of them have their unique mode of teaching. Surely, I've gained a lot of extra knowledge apart from the syllabus. They provide us with extensive notes and lectures. Also quite a good number of seminars are held related to different topics which further help us to gain insight into the real world scenario. Overall I've a good experience of being a Political science student in this college.

Scottish Church College has a placement cell which offers jobs from companies like Infosys and TATA, etc. The jobs provided in the placement are not very high paying jobs but it gives an idea about the competition. The placement cell is not very functional.

Scottish Church provides 3 hostels for both male and female students. The boy’s hostel is infrastructure wise not very new but they are well maintained. The girl’s hostel is new and also has a functional life. Food here is great, 2 times a day with complimentary snacks on Friday. We have game facilities too inside the hostel. There is no ac but we are allowed to keep extra fans and coolers. The warden is always there to keep utmost care of us.

The campus is small but it is very aesthetic and clean. The campus is very green too. It is built in European style and it looks very pretty. The main building is very old since it is from the 1800’s and has been through many renovations, but it is very well maintained. There are another 3 buildings as well apart from the main building: Jubilee building, Millennium Building and a B.Ed building. We have easy access washrooms in all corners of the college. The common rooms for both male and females are chill out. A seminar hall and auditorium is also built. Not to forget, There is a massive hall right at the entrance.

The people in this college are very welcoming. At first I thought I wouldn't fit in but that turned out to be least of my worries. There are activity clubs like dance, music, literature, drama, nature, etc where I got to interact with many people. Sometimes there are jamming sessions in the Jubilee building and you'll never know that you're vibing with unknown people. Sports is also an active category in the college although the ground is outside the college campus.
