IIT Delhi is one of the premier engineering colleges in India. It stood second in the NIRF Rankings 2024 and 150 in the QS Global ranking index. The lush green campus of IIT Delhi is spread across 320 acres and is in South Delhi (Hauz Khas). The magenta line of the Delhi metro connects it to different parts of the city and provides a very convenient and economical way of transport for the students. It has best-in-class academic, sports and cultural activities on campus, providing exposure to students in various fields.

IIT Delhi has 16 departments, 11 centers and 6 different schools, each specializing in different domains. It offers Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral degrees. To secure admission to undergraduate programs, students need to prove their mettle in the prestigious Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Admission to the M. Tech programs can be obtained through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and IIT JAM exams.

IIT Delhi has very experienced professors. Most of the professors at IIT Delhi hold a Ph.D degree from top foreign universities. They have immense expertise in their subjects and are extremely supportive. Research is among the top priorities for professors at IITs and IIT Delhi is no exception. It provides excellent research facilities to students. When students approach professors seeking academic support or guidance, the professors are more than willing to help the students and help them cruise through their academic journey at IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi has a very active placement cell which looks after the internship and placements for the students. Most of the disciplines are covered here such as B.Tech, M.Tech and even Ph.D. The Management School (DMS- Department of Management Studies) however has a separate placement cell. The internship and placement drives are conducted in two phases each. The first phase of internships usually starts in July-August and the first placement drive happens in December.

The hostels of IIT Delhi are either single occupancy or double occupancy. However, most of the students in the first and second years of B.Tech are allotted double sharing in single occupancy rooms (For Example, hostels like Vindhayachal and Shivalik) and triple sharing in double sharing rooms (example hostels like Aravali and Karakoram). The students enjoy a lot of freedom as there is no time restriction on when they can enter or leave their hostels apart from the first couple of months in their freshman year when they are under curfew period.

IIT Delhi has one of the best infrastructures among all the colleges across the country. The newly built Lecture Hall Complexes, where most of the lectures are held offer a unique experience to the students. It has six floors and is fully air-conditioned. IIT Delhi also has some of the best sports facilities hosted in the Mittal Sports Complex.

IIT Delhi has a very vibrant campus life with students participating in different clubs, societies and sports activities. Various festivals are conducted throughout the year, encouraging continuous engagement of students with different co-curricular activities. The most famous among the fests is the Rendezvous – North India’s largest cultural fest. It attracts audiences from all over the country and the campus transforms into a cultural hub during the days of the fest.
