Salesian College B.Com Review By Rahul Tirkey

Salesian College is a government recognized, now autonomous college, minority educational institution of the Catholic Church which is managed by the Silesians of Don Bosco, Kolkata province. The college accommodates over 3000 students enrolled in Arts/Humanities, Commerce, Science, and professional courses (UG and PG) under the university of North Bengal (NBU). I am well satisfied in this college. One may opt for this college currently as it the only one college in whole North Bengal which is autonomous and it is accredited by NAAC 'A' grade college, twice UGC certified college with Potential for Excellence (CPE).

Salesian College provides courses like BA, B.Com for morning and B.Sc, BBA, and BCA for day sessions, along with Masters programs in English, Education, Psychology and Commerce. This college is also recognized as an IGNOU study centre (since May 2005 in Salesian College Siliguri and 2010 in Salesian college Sonata campus). One can enroll in this college through online site of the college or offline form after which a student has to go through few rounds of interview sessions with faculty, vice principal of the chosen stream which may feel quite difficult but they are actually are not that way. A student with average percentage of 70% or more than that can easily get admission in this college. From the academic year 2023-24 the college started offering a dual major in Philosophy, and from the academic year 2024-25 it is ready to offer dual majors in nearly all programs of study, making it the first college in the region to provide such opportunities.

The faculty of this college has good knowledge in their field of teaching as every teacher has minimum of 5 or more years of teaching experience. However, the college is being recruiting some new experience teachers. They provide us knowledge through best mediums such as through referred books, video presentations, etc. The faculty is also very friendly to the students, the students can go up with their problems with no hesitation. They also support or encourage us to take part in co-curricular activities and sometimes they themselves take part in it.

Yes, our college has a placement cell.

Yes, our college has residential facilities but it is only for girls. As heard from hostlers, the hostel infrastructure is well done and various activities take place. Healthy and good food is also provided to the students for 3 times in a day.

The college infrastructure is very amazing. The college campus is built over acres of land and is very big. It has different blocks for different courses such and Savio block for Commerce, Don Bosco block for Arts and humanities and Nazareth block for Sciences Student. It also provides a well maintained library with lots of books and study arrangements. It has also well maintained computer labs and two big halls for video presentations and study purpose or any events to be organized. It also has different rooms for different cells of college which are well provided.

Campus Life is very good. One who studies here have may experience a very good life of his college life. In college, there are distinct cells such as NCC, NSS, Mass Communication and Media, Salesian Radio, enacts, Debating Society, Human Rights Cell, Women Cell, Sports Association and many more to be mentioned. It also hosts different kinds of fest such as Ensure, Innovation, Inscape, SMUN and many more which may be very beneficial to students in his life for future purpose.
