Nirma University B.Com+LLB Review By Punit Karamchandani

My overall experience at Institute of Law, Nirma University was like a roller coaster. When I was there, I felt like why I am here but it feels like this university has given me a lot. The learning at university was valuable and the experience was decent in general. It was a five year course. Firstly, I appeared for Common Law Aptitude Test and got selected in Nirma. My rank was 2200 and I got selected in lower NLU's which was not my preference and in 2019 Nirma had respectable name in Law.

There are two courses available BA LLB (Hons.) And B.Com LLB (Hons.). I was B.Com LLB student. Course is good. You will learn a lot about almost every Law of the country as it is an honors course. You have an option of choosing specialization in 4th year, where you select in which area of Law you want to go ahead. For entry, you need to appear for CLAT exam, national level entry paper for law universities and when I got selected criteria was to get rank under 3000. Now it has increased and this made easy selection at university. This has affected the quality of students also as selection is much easier now. My motive was simple, I always wanted become a corporate Lawyer and that's why I spent a lot on my studies at university. These programs here give you ample of knowledge in terms of not only legal acquaintance but also make you teach world scenes.

On faculties, my review is mix. Some faculties are really good and know how to teach but many of them are just average because of lack of experience. Some faculties teach by using examples and cases to make us understand the concepts of Law, which is something good. Overall faculties lack bit of a potential in the university.

The placement section of the university too needs to be improved. It needs to work over inviting tier 1, 2 and 3 Law firms in the placement drive. Some Law firms come to university for placement and other than that in-house legal roles are offered by various companies. Another thing that needs to be improved is to increase the placement rate. The strength of my batch was 240 and only 30% of the students got placements through in-campus placement drive. Companies like EY and KPMG came for placement in the university.

The university provides hostel facilities, though these facilities were primarily for boys but now girl’s hostel is also open. Other than that, students can choose to reside in private hostels, PGs or flats near the university. Hostel life is just average. However, the hostel management needs to bring strict rules into act in order to maintain the decorum of the hostels. Fee of newly opened girl’s hostel is around 1.3 to 2 LPA, which varies as per the preference of the rooms. The rooms are new and decent to stay. I don’t have idea about other facilities.

Infrastructure of the Nirma University is unsurpassed. The campus is big, green, clean and beautiful. It has every possible amenity one university can have to offer comfortable learning environment. From good classrooms to good library, from gym to all sports facilities along with 4-5 canteens in whole campus, all of these facilities are in the university in top-quality. It has grounds and auditoriums for functions and is positioned in main road. The campus is safe and protected. In general, the city Ahmedabad is safer than several other cities and nice place to live in.

Overall campus life is amazing. There are lots of things to do in university, apart from studies. The crowd in university is great and you will interact with good crowd only. There are around 6-7 colleges in university and there are several students in these colleges. Clubs are there, ranging from literature to dance, music to sports, debate to moot and several other clubs are there in which student can be part of and learn lot of things. Fests in Nirma are great, every year one fest is organized which lasts for 3 days. It includes sports, dance, theatre, musical events many other activities. Other engagement activities include visits to courts or some other places.
