International Institute of Information Technology M.Tech Review By Alok Yadav

After studying in Cambridge of East (Pune), I came to Cambridge of South in India (Bangalore) for M. Tech. Bangalore probably has the maximum engineering colleges in India and college like R.V. College of Engineering, New Horizon College of Engineering, BMS are always on the top list of students who wants to pursue M. Tech. I had the option to choose almost any college in Bangalore on the basis of GATE score but I choose IIITB as it was more of a research institute. I always felt that rather than making life better of the ones who are already leading a better life, study something that can solve a genuine problem. Engineering doesn’t just mean working in cubicles in IT companies. IIITB gave my dreams a wing as there’s a research lab that is made specially for the subjects. I learned about the TAM (Total Addressable Market) and the problem that is faced by many individuals. The college funds almost all the projects that they see potential in. IIITB can get you placed at your dream IT company but for those who want to start something on their own or for those who thrive to bring a change in the society.

Technology’s best use if one wants to learn, he/she should join IIITB. The college is technically the soundest and that is what we were taught here. Not just the books but our scientific thoughts and queries related to them were solved through practicals. It was more of a practical learning at IIITB than just the theory. I was shell shocked with the way academic calendar was scheduled. You can’t even have one minute to spare during college hours. Before I submitted my first assignment, the second was ready. I did almost 70+ assignments in four semesters and the learning that I took at IIITB was more than what I ever imagined.

IIITB doesn’t just hire the ones who have to prove their mettle but the ones who can be termed as readymade talent were the professors here. All the professors were genius and so helpful that each and every doubt whether it’s related to the course or not, the professors will help us solve that. If our research is in wrong direction the professors will guide us as personal researches at college were also supported by professors. Professors at IIITB were like my fatherly figures who never let me down and also used to enjoy with students during the down time. One thing that faculty made sure that we all do is saviour the pause and find time for things which we loved the most.

Since it’s a research institute, the college doesn’t have the big IT giants for placements but purpose driven start-ups as well. The placement department though makes sure that students are not being exploited by receiving a lesser salary. Many such companies have been banned by the institute and therefore you can be assured of placements that falls under 30% tax bracket. In short you can double your graduation package after pursuing a two-year M. Tech program from IIITB.

The hostel will give you a wow factor. It was simply wow as the rooms, the facilities and the hostel security and warden were so good that you can leave all your thoughts to rest and just enjoy the life the way you want. Parties and all were not allowed but for birthdays and occasions, we could make noise and warden will bear that much. Hostel never had a dull moment as all the students who came here had something extra ordinary to share. The food for me wasn’t that delicious as most of the students thought it was.

If one wants to see a modern piece of art then they should just visit IIITB campus just for fun. All the buildings are so well maintained and are technically the soundest. The college library was a bit small but since it was a digital library, we all had access to many books digitally as well. The classrooms were generous in size and one student can enjoy the single bench with their personal plug in point. I doubt if there’s any other college that has such classrooms. The college doesn’t have a proper playground and that probably is the only drawback because for students like me who wants to run on tracks rather than treadmills doesn’t have an option. The college though has a modern gym inside the campus with almost all the gym equipment's.

Life at IIITB was cooler than the weather of Bangalore. Just kidding as Bangalore weather was mostly hot. Smartest of brains around meant that I could learn a lot not just through studies but from my fellow students as well. Not much in terms of cultural events but in terms of technical learning IIITB was the best.
