Bharati College B.A Review By Mamta Kumari

Bharati College is a part of University of Delhi and is located in Janakpuri East. It’s an all-girls’ college of Arts and Social Sciences that offer various courses in bachelors and honors and a master’s degree in Hindi. Along with that the college has introduced many short-term courses lately. This offers a great chance to students to enhance their professional skills. Other than this, it has computer courses and certificate and diploma programs in foreign languages also. This college attracts a great crowd from the areas close to West Delhi. Though, the high cut-offs and deep desire to become a part of DU are two significant reasons for some students who seek admission here and have to travel nearly 2-3 hours on regular basis. Bharati College is a study center to many NCWEB and IGNOU students as well. Ever since, I graduated from here, I have seen the college moving ahead in the direction of success and becoming a platform for numerous students like me who enroll in a program with hope to achieve something great in life.

I can say this from my personal experience that the college puts in its best effort to make student knowledgeable. Many seminars and workshops are organized off-campus and that gave us a lot of opportunity to explore the life outside campus as well. The three years of my college life at Bharati College didn’t just make me smart in my studies but also made sure that I am aware of what’s happening beyond the college boundaries.

The faculty at the college is well-experienced and truly humble. All the departments have members who are equally dedicated to bring out the best in students under their guidance. All the professors take initiatives at individual levels to make every class, workshop and seminar as productive as it can be for the students, thus, flooding the minds of students with new ideas and thoughts every now and then. It was one such International Conference organized by the English department of the college which gave me a great opportunity to learn things beyond the horizon of my thinking abilities and taught me to push my boundaries for achieving the best of my potential. Being a literature student, I managed to learn the art of interpretation and skills for shaping my ideas, abundantly during my graduation days. Faculty of Bharati College are prestige of not just the college but also of DU.

Though, the college offers great placement opportunities for all the departments but it does not work out similarly for all the students. As, different career interests are not taken care of in the jobs offered during the placements. In fact, the lucrative placements here are confined to a very few courses. And, for the students of English department, the chances to begin a career with college placement in Bharati College are not that bright. Nevertheless, many of its NCC cadets go on to sit for ‘C’ and ‘B’ certificates, enabling them to work in the army and different wings of the government. On the whole, placements were slightly lower than expectations.

The college doesn't provide hostel facility yet.

When it comes to the infrastructure of college, it certainly deserves tons of appreciation. The college has been seen developing time to time in terms of infrastructure. It has rooms to accommodate nearly 2000 students for the classes. The garden adds even more to its beauty. Recently, an auditorium has been built. It had a gym back in the time when I was a student there and it’s still there and getting only better. The canteen of the college serves a variety of food and all the dishes are equally good. The prices of food fall under the pockets of the students, making the canteen an eminent part of college’s infrastructure and a special corner of the college for the students.

It is an off-campus college but has a short list of its own attractions where students can go to enjoy their leisure time. The Delhi Haat of Janakpuri is the closest hanging out place for the students. The other place in the list is the craft market or fondly known, DC (District Centre) in Janakpuri West. This single place houses a number of shops offering food, accessories, footwear, clothes, etc., making it an ideal place to hang out with your girls' gang. The movie complex, McDonalds, Barista, etc. can be a few more go to choices for the students to spend their free time, when they are in DC.
