Inside life at IIT Kharagpur

Overall Rating
IIT Kharagpur in my opinion is most known and loved for its amazing campus life. Build around two thousand acres with a lush green pollution free campus, makes it a great place for night outs and general roaming around with friends. IITs are also known to have one of the best educations in India, so it was a no barrier for me to take this course at IIT Kharagpur. I have personally chose Manufacturing Science and Engineering course.
 

Academics Rating
I am a part of the Manufacturing Science and Engineering course here, which is mostly just an out shoot of the Mechanical Engineering Department. For entry, we require at least 75% in 12th boards, qualified JEE Mains and qualified JEE Advanced. The rank cutoff for this specific course went to around 6k rank this year. Manufacturing Engineering is a great branch of study having great and updated syllabus, with computer assisted courses and certain compulsory AI and ML courses which aid a lot in any branch as a tool.
 

Faculty Rating
All professors here at IIT Kharagpur are PhD scholars and very good teachers. They not only teach, but also try to explain points and link with real life applications. The only con here I would like to provide is that due to the large class size, its sometimes very difficult to approach professors for doubts within the classes, but they are always willing to help if approached by mail and generally respond within 24 hours.
 

Placement Rating
There is a Career Development Center here at IIT Kharagpur and it tries its best to aid the students here not only in placement but also in internships. With internships they try to aid you in developing your resume in a certain field of your desire. It tries to approach even foreign universities for research internship opportunities. The placement percentage here is around 70% and an average package is around 15 LPA. Most people who don't receive a placement go for higher studies or even entrepreneurship.
 

Hostel Rating
I am a boarder of LBS Hall here at IIT Kharagpur. The LBS Hall consists of all the fresher students and some seniors. There are triple sharing rooms here which are pretty spacious with essentials provided like bed, desk, chair, shelf, etc. The other halls here are well equipped as well. At the end of first year, students are split across rest of the Halls, which tries to funnel them into double sharing rooms and eventually single rooms. Halls have gyms, table tennis tables, some courts, and libraries.
 

Infrastructure Rating
There is really great infrastructure here. There are multiple academic complexes here and mostly AC classrooms with projector facilities. Digital libraries help a lot and have around 2.75 lakh books. The Wi-Fi and LAN speeds here are also great. Buildings here are generally well regulated and maintained. There are also multiple auditoriums where screenings, seminars, and such events are held.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life generally feels like a homely experience. There are more than fifty societies and clubs here. The seniors in these clubs will provide great information about the campus, staying here, and general advice. These societies also help in development of a person in communication or certain niche in which they are interested. There are also many fests here, but the two most important ones are Spring Fest and Kshitij Fest. Inter IIT sports competitions are also organised very seriously, with amazing sporting facilities and tutoring as well.

    IIT Kharagpur is one of the most renowned academic institutes in India. It has NIRF ranking of 5th in engineering category. It is one among the oldest IITs in India which makes it strong alumni network. The lush greenery campus with fresh air, away from city makes students life excellent.   • Prestigious institute for the right exposure

    Indian institute of technology Kharagpur is one of the oldest and best Engineering institutes in India. As we can see through the NIRF ranking, it is one of the prestigious institutes and we can get admission in it by cracking Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). I can choose IIT Kharagpur over other institutes because of better placements and internships opportunities and for exposure. We get a lot of exposure here in different areas and enhance our skills.     Among engineering colleges in India, as everyone knows IITs are the most popular and ensuring institutes and even among them IIT Kharagpur is the oldest. The faculty and infrastructure here is totally worth the competition and hard work which one goes through during its preparation. The life here is mesmerizing and again worth the struggle.
