Ravenshaw University is one of the most renowned universities of Odisha. It's rich in culture and heritage, and the campus is filled with history. It was founded back in 1868, and it has only evolved ever since. What makes Ravenshaw a stand-out University is the number of courses it offers, students have plenty of options to choose from. I was admitted to Ravenshaw for my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, the entrance test wasn't very easy, but it's not very difficult either if you prepare with passion. The entrance includes an OMR based MCQs questionnaire. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded an 'A' grade to the University for its excellence in the field of academics and the environment it offers to its students.

The Academic Facility at Ravenshaw is quite impressive for the vast number of courses it offers. It allows students from every background to come and fulfill their dreams of studying in the University. It provides reservation for the minors and underprivileged, you can also apply for various scholarships. Timings of the classes start from 9am onwards till 4pm considering a lot of students come from faraway places. The professors are very interactive and friendly with the students; students can keep in touch with them through social media or phone calls. The Library in the University named Kanika Library is huge and it has millions of books. Students can issue the books they need with the use of their library card.

There are sufficient faculty members available in the University. There's no scarcity of that. And almost all the Professors have a doctorate degree with them and some of them have doctorate degrees from Foreign Universities such as NYU, Oxford University etc. The lecturers and professors are very amicable with the students; some of them wouldn't even mind talking in the regional language to make local students feel comfortable with themselves and the studies. They're also very rich in knowledge, and take regular doubt clearing sessions to help the students. They also make sure to give important questions before any important exams.

My course in particular, that is Bachelor's in Arts, does not have any placements. But courses like BBA, MBA, Computer Science, IT, etc. have the opportunity of getting campus placements. Renowned companies like Deloitte, Tata, Reliance, Amazon, Infosys etc. come to the campus every year to get the students placed. These companies provide a decent per annum salary package, the average package that they offer is 3.5 to 6 lacs per annum. Around 15-20% of students of the University get placed through these companies. The process of placement includes good percentile in your respective subject and a viva voce.

Hostels in Ravenshaw University are named after famous rivers and the directions such as East, West, north and south hostels. It’s hard to get hostels for students who are from Cuttack itself, because the University allows hostels to those who come from faraway places. Hostels are separate for girls and boys. Hostels provide dorms and rooms to students with fans and proper lighting facilities. The hostel offers a good deal of food to its students, non-veg at least twice a week, and normal veg food on other days. Hostel mess offers 4 meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. The girls’ hostels are high walled and secured with security guards.

The University is spread around 87 acres. It has a very enticing environment, rich in greenery, and there are plenty of plantations in the campus itself. The famous Ravenshaw lawn is filled with soft grass to sit and chat with friends in the evening. The University has an SBI bank branch of its own and an ATM inside the campus. The famous Sundial from the Victorian era is present right in the middle of the campus; it gives the right time. The University has one of the best libraries of the state, Kanika Library, which has millions of books for students in need. Students can issue the books with the help of library cards. The University has a huge ground for students to play and to hold outdoor functions.

I've been very fortunate to have had the chance of studying in this renowned University. The University offered me with everything that I wished for including great and lifelong friends. The campus is very lively with its evergreen surroundings and political activism. Students are very outspoken as well. If anything wrong happens, they make sure to demand it done right. The University is located near the Cuttack Railway Station, about 500 meters away, making it very accessible for students who come from faraway places. The place where the university is located is known as College Square. Autos and Buses are easily available from that place. Ravenshaw University is one of the many wonders of Cuttack.
