Motilal Nehru College (Evening) B.Com Review By Uma Tiwari

My overall experience at the college was really good. The campus is amazing. Teachers are well-educated and they give proper attention to each student. Moreover except studies there are multiple clubs and societies to choose from which are optional but I highly recommend joining them because it’s a different feeling and they make your college life worth it. I was in two societies, namely National Service Scheme and Women Development Cell. We used to do various things like rallies, blood donations camps, etc. in National Service Scheme and in Women Development Cell we used to have multiple sessions about cancers, prevention of sexual harassment, menstrual hygiene and other important stuff. Don’t be fooled by the name, Women Development Cell is not just about women, it’s about everyone. We had many nukkad natak about different social issues. We also joined a non-governmental organization teaching underprivileged children. I was junior associate in Women Development Cell. The society taught me to be myself. I gained a lot of confidence during my time there. I would highly recommend joining this society or any for that matter because you are going to meet wonderful people and make amazing memories.

I was in 2021 batch and therefore I didn’t give any entrance exam or test for joining the college. I scored 95% in 12th and I pursued Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.). For that you need minimum 95% in 12th for the general category. No one in my class had scored less than 90-95% so I think that was the criterion 3 years ago. I can list some of my subjects here for more clarity. In first semester I had, Introductory Microeconomics, Financial Accounting, Business Law, and Environmental Science. In the second semester, I had Introductory Macroeconomics (again as an elective), Corporate Accounting, Corporate Laws, and English. In third semester I had, Money and Banking (as elective), Human Resource Management, Income Tax Law and Practice, Management Principles and Application, and Digital Marketing. In the fourth semester I had, Public Finance, Cost Accounting, and Business Mathematics, Computer Application in Business, and Cyber Crime and Law. In fifth semester I had, Principles of Marketing and Financial Management. Now there are options in four subjects and you have to choose two, I don't remember the other two, but the two I chose were, Management Accounting and Business Statistics. Now the sixth semester, I had Auditing and Corporate Governance, Goods and Service Tax and Custom Laws, Fundamentals of Investment, and International Business.

Most of the teachers were highly educated and you could tell that they know what they are teaching. Especially my Audit and Fundamental of Investment’s teachers, both of them were very sweet as well as interested in teaching. Fundamental of investment's ma'am would even write formulas and solve full questions on the board. She even gave me grace marks for attendance because I could not attend class. Auditing ma'am would also give marks even if you didn't take class. She used to answer all the questions. I did not have a good experience with some of the teachers like in second semester, I had a teacher who used to teach corporate accounting and she would just dictate everything. But overall all other teachers were good with expert knowledge about their subjects, with unique teaching styles.

We had various blocks, namely J block, PG block, PC block, physics department or LT block, chemistry department, a computer lab, a canteen, a sports block, an admin department, and a library. The classes were good, though I prefer J block because there were ACs. The buildings were cleaned from time to time. Some washrooms were not the best hygiene wise, but most of them were pretty clean. We also had a girl's common room to study, or just chill. With the help of my society Women Development Cell, he had 2-3 sanitary napkin dispensers around the college. Sometimes we would play in the college playground. It was well maintained along with sport's equipment. We just had to provide our I-card and we could take them. Our library was also pretty big with all kinds of books, from academic to story books, novels, magazines and newspaper. In the library we had to scan our I-card and we could go inside to study and even issue books.

My overall college was good. I spent 3 amazing years of my life in this college, met wonderful people and had a lot of fun. Most of the crowd was good considering a south Delhi campus. Our college conducted 2 fests during my time there, but unfortunately I couldn’t make it to either of them. My society Women Development Cell did conducted 2 fests in which I participated. Both times I participated in nukkad natak, and also helped in decorations around the college. During my second year in college there was NAAC visit for which we did decorations. My college life gave me a lot and I am thankful for it.
