International Institute of Information Technology M.Tech Review By Jagdish Kumar

First of all, merit is the only basis here for admission as there’s no reservation here apart from just a small management quota that hardly has 8-10 seats. Great research facilities but less than what they advertise. Placements were almost 100% and that too quality placements. Even 7 years from now, the lectures were recorded and in case you have missed any there was a video streaming room, you can go there and watch the lecture. Speed was average but the entire campus had Wi-Fi facilities. The college can never have any electricity issue as there are two generators for backup. Last but not the least, it was the crowd that made my life great at IIIT as many sharp and intelligent brains were assembled at one place. No matter what, there are always cons when it comes to colleges. Since M.Tech, is more of a research study, there was no stationery inside the campus and students had to travel at least 2-3 miles to get their Xerox done. The walls have started coming off and maybe they would have got them fixed by now but in our time even after so many complaints, it wasn’t fixed. Lastly there’s no medical facility inside the campus and even for a small bandage we have to go out.

Completely research-based studies and labs were fully equipped for that. Attendance obviously was compulsory. Facilities like latest classrooms and personal benches and more than required space was alright but as I have mentioned it before the walls needs addressing. Academic wise college is good actually better than many because their formula is different and one that suits everyone’s style.

Faculties were good and one who were always there for help. Every faculty had an acumen which was enough for us to understand the subjects and their usage in future. The basic difference between B. E. and M. tech is that in B. E. we study a lot of subjects that are hardly of any use. In M. Tech, everything that we learn is of use and at IIIT; the course was designed keeping all the industry need in mind. Faculty played their role whole heartedly and I am personally thankful to them even though I was not given grace marks to complete my course on time. It took one extra semester for me to have my degree but it was not faculty fault as they had same rules for all.

Even for students who couldn’t complete their course on time were awarded campus placements. Packages were as good as that of any B-Schools and getting to work in some newly found start-ups was possible only because of since efforts by college’s placement and training cell department. The placements were excellent then and I am sure they would have improved a lot since then.

There were 2 boys hostel blocks and 2 girls’ hostel blocks. Hostel had state-of-the-art facilities as it had air-conditioned rooms, private rooms, sharing room options. The boys’ hostel blocks were called Visveshwara and Bhaskara. Hostel’s had common rooms and hostellers had access to college facilities for as long as they wanted. There are students not just from other states of India but many students from abroad too come here for studies. The college management has taken everything in consideration and has then built the facilities.

The college is located in city’s IT hub that is electronic city. The college itself looks like an IT park as all the buildings are high-tech and the roads inside the campus are much better than the roads that we have in Bangalore. The canteen is mammoth and serves almost all the Indian dishes. Not just that the canteen also serves some continental dishes and there’s also a separate Jain section. The library was huge and then there was a huge e research centre as well. It was a good finish because the area I would say is still sparse considering the number of students, and branches. Hostel is also inside the campus and one can relax with swag at the campus.

Every year one cultural and sports event is celebrated within the campus. Not many from outside the campus are invited as the college has maintained an introvert policy. Studies have always been the first priority and that is why not many clubs are active and students are free to enjoy club life but only after the lecture hours. Since, I was there for PG, it was easy for me but for those who spend 4 or more years, it can be tough.
