IIEST, Shibpur (formerly known as BE College) is the second oldest engineering college in the country. The campus is huge spanning over 120 acres with state of the art infrastructure. The institute is primarily known for providing B.Tech in several fields such as Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical, Civil and so on. Being a student of Civil Engineering (the flagship department of the institute), both theoretical and practical exposure is provided to us.

The admission at IIEST, Shibpur is through JEE Mains score and its corresponding counseling process called JOSAA. The minimum eligibility is to have passed 10+2. The course of B.Tech is of 4 years. During these 4 years, students have to study various technical as well as non-technical subjects along with practical. There are a total of 8 semesters (2 semesters each year). In a single semester, there are mid-term and end-term examinations, viva and class tests are also conducted for some subjects. 75% attendance criteria are essential.

The Civil Engineering department has a number of experienced and dignified faculty members with both industry and academic experience. Most of them have completed their Ph.D from old IITs or from foreign universities. During a particular technical course, faculty members try their best to impart knowledge to make us industry-ready for solving problems that may arise in real life scenarios.

The campus of IIEST, Shibpur has a main academic building with 2 lobbies where most of the classes of engineering departments are conducted. It also has an 8-storeyed Science and Technology building where administrative duties are performed and classes for the M.Sc departments are conducted. The Ramanujan Central Library is one of the oldest and largest resourceful libraries in south Asia.

The campus life here is beautiful and memorable. A cultural fest called Rebecca takes place during April each year where several renowned artists perform. There is a number of clubs and societies present such as Robo Darshan (for Robotics), Les Thespians (for dramatics), Catharsis (for photography), Euphony (for music), LitSoc (for literature), and so on.
