Ramaiah Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Karthik Anna

After coming to this college, I realized that students of VTU are still studying stone age syllabus. I would pretty much sum up my review at the beginning itself that the college was too good. GATE is mandatory for M.Tech and only the top ranked students end up here. In M.Tech there’s no state quota or anything and therefore top students from across the country is what you will find here. An excellent community of students is what you will find here and learning with them was an absolute pleasure. However, for me the biggest plus of MSRIT should be the location of the college. Majestic, Yeshwantpuram Railway Station and many malls are within 4-5 kms of the college. In short there are plenty of hangout places near the college and that means that the fun is guaranteed.

If I say, I was satisfied with the Computer Science department, it would be little harsh. I couldn’t find a single person who said that the course here is not good. For electives many new technologies were used and we were introduced to a lot of new technologies during the course of two years. Professors trend towards new age technology is superb. Yes, like all the colleges attendance is definitely strict but then there are ways to deal with it. Teaching is not marks oriented but learning oriented. Marking is tough and even I had to beg to my professors to give grace mark in one of the subjects where I flunked. The study atmosphere at MSRIT is quite satisfactory and I would say probably the best.

First word should be excellent but then exceptions are always there. Not just the faculty members supported as the far but beyond far as well. Only one bad thing if I can say is that they made us do way too many assignments. Many of them have to be written with hand and that exercise was probably to improve our handwriting I guess because after started working I don’t think I have ever used a pen and a paper. They were quite encouraging and helped us in almost all possible ways. Lectures were always on time and professors were on song before the exams as they would make us brush up the syllabus not once or twice but as much as they can. If I leave out one or two professors, all were great.

Placements can be subjective because if I include ISE, CSE, and ECE, one would say they just loved the placements. However, if I say for other branches, it was pathetic. Even the chemical and mechanical engineers were offered IT jobs. Only Tech Giants were available for placements and they did offered some really good packages. For M.Tech student having a package in the range of Rs. 10 LPA was a cakewalk. Almost all the students of my batch had a package around that. I was highly satisfied but one should be careful to choose just the three branches that I mentioned otherwise you will never get a job in the core industry.

Not many people might address this but I think I should. MSRIT has both boys and girls hostel and both are victim of drug abuse. Even ragging was quite common in junior hostel and seniors had to literally confront to stop the fights. For boys they have separate hostel for engineering students but girls' hostel is combined with institute’s medical students. Rooms though of both the hostels are great and facilities too are great. I think I have sufficed all my points as there are positives and negatives about the hostels and I have mentioned them both.

If I look at the number of institutes that are there the campus can be called a little small. Changes are made every now and then. In three years, that I passed out there’s a daylight difference in the buildings. Location as I have mentioned is excellent and no point discussing that. Internal facilities at the campus are just too good. There are 3-4 gardens and multiple canteens that served all kind of eateries. We still choose to hangout outside the campus as its prime location of the city. There were recreation rooms in almost each building and competitions were held every quarter. Compact should be the right word because the campus was always full of students and one had to sneak in to be able to have access to most of the facilities that the institute has.

When one talk about MSRIT, they can never stop talking about the 30+ clubs that are present at the campus. From dancing to debate all the clubs were highly active. As M.Tech students, we couldn’t contribute much but for students doing B. Tech or other courses they have just lighten up the club culture at MSRIT. One good thing is that if you are not happy with any club, you have the power to start a club of your own choice. Annual fest ‘Udbhav’ was as high as anything and students and teachers both went crazy during the three-day event that is held in February every year.
