IIT Kharagpur placements vary from department to department

IIT Kharagpur is a good college with many facilities available from sporting opportunities to academic opportunities. If a person is interested in something, then they are likely to meet like-minded individuals here. It is a 3 hour train ride away from Kolkata, so it is a somewhat remote area, but the campus is very big and all kinds of stores and services are available here, so one will not feel like they are missing anything. I chose this particular institute due to its prestige as one of the top 5 IITs, and I was getting a department of choice, Mathematics and Computing.

The coursework varied in the first year, but became department-focused in the second year. Competition is tough, but if one gives regular time to completion of course they will not have issues in keeping up with their courses. In later years, one can select electives of their choice, from multiple departments, as per their interests.

There is a variety in the faculty that can be found here. Some professors are extremely enthusiastic in their work and try their best to explain the coursework. But there are also some professors who are extremely lazy, and put in the bare minimum effort and don't ensure whether the students have understood the entire curriculum.

The placement stats will vary from department to department. The highest it had gone is 93% while the lowest is 56%. The average placement of all the departments is 70%.

The hostel is decent and has necessary facilities, and is spacious.

Some of the older departmental buildings and hostels have old buildings, but the library and main academic building are new, and all facilities are available here. Improvements can be made in certain areas, such as the hospital and old hostels, but one will manage as they will be preoccupied with many new things they will get to experience here.

The campus life here is great, there are many clubs for all sorts of things, and one can keep them engaged in club tasks all day if they would like to. The gymkhana offers facilities for all sorts of sports, so you can play many sports here. Fests and Hall Days are also very fun events in which one can make many fond memories.
