NIT Rourkela JEE Mains cut off within 40000

NIT Rourkela is one of the best institutes for perusing Engineering. It is located in the Rourkela town of the Sundargarh district, Odisha. Its NIRF ranking is 16th place in Engineering. I chose this institute because of its reputation, strong alumni network and good placements despite being in an industrial town. You should also go here because you will get a lot of exposure and have a good campus life.

I am currently enrolled in the 5 year B.Tech and M.Tech dual degree course in Chemical Engineering. You will get a post graduation degree in just 5 years through this course. Anyone who qualified the JEE Mains exam is eligible to apply for it in the counselling. But due to high competition its seats are generally filled within the All India Rank of 40000 by the male general category, other state students, home state students and the students from the reserved category may get it at a lower rank.

The faculties here are very knowledgeable, helpful and supportive. Almost all the faculties in our department have done their Ph.D from reputed colleges of India. Some even have postdoctoral degrees from foreign universities. Their way of teaching is good; they explain almost everything that is mentioned in the syllabus. But there are some exceptions. A few professors maybe rude but a majority of them are good.

Placements in our institute are quite decent. But it also depends on the branch. NIT Rourkela has a dedicated placement cell which is mostly run by the students only. There are placement coordinators which are responsible for inviting companies for placements and internships. They are quite helpful for on-campus placements. The placement cell provides all the necessary information about the companies and the placement eligibility criteria. They also conduct orientations, group discussions, etc.

NIT Rourkela has 11 hostels out of which eight hostels are for boys, two hostels are for girls and one hostel is for married students. All the hostels have all the basic facilities like 24*7 electricity, LAN ports in all the rooms, water purifiers and water coolers, a mess, gym, regular cleaning of corridors, washrooms and weekly cleaning of rooms. The hostel also has an indoor playing zone for chess, table tennis, etc.

The infrastructure of our institute is good. Some buildings are old but are in good condition. Whereas other buildings are new and have all modern amenities. There are individual buildings for every department except for the Civil Engineering and Food Processing Engineering departments. Some hostel buildings have problems of leaking through the roofs during the rainy season which are fixed by the administration from time to time. There is one central library, administrative building, placement building and many canteens in the campus.

The campus life at NIT Rourkela is quite good. We have a lush green campus which looks like a small city. It has all the essential things within the campus area. There are around 8500 students studying in this institute from all over the country, which shows the diversity of students in the campus. There are so many clubs for different activities and interests like coding, sports, singing, gaming and robotics. There are also departmental clubs which are registered in the Student Activity Centre (SAC). There are 4 main fests in our institute. Innovision is the annual technical fest, Vriddhi is the annual sports fest and Cosmopolitan is the annual cultural fest. The fest ‘Nitrutsav’ has major events like the ‘celebrity night’ and other engaging events.
