IIT Madras is No. 1 in NIRF Ranking

IIT Madras is located in the hub of the city of Chennai. It has a well-maintained green campus with attractive flora and fauna. The campus area is huge around 600 acres and is divided into different zones like the Hostel, Academics and Residential Area. Deer, blackbucks, monkeys and cute cats are sometimes visible in the campus and are eye-catchy. But be aware of monkeys snatching your food. IIT Madras provides lots of amenities from the sports complex to libraries, canteens, hangout areas, CCD and most importantly the Students Activity Centre.

Departments don't matter much as you can choose electives from any of the branches, providing you have certain prerequisites i.e. CGPA or some basic level course. In the first year, all degrees have common courses and from the 2nd year onwards you move towards your course specialisation. IIT Madras has some very interesting branches i.e. Engineering Design and Ocean Engineering.

There's a system of Relative Grading which is followed among all the IITs and the same in Madras as well. The professors here are both chill and strict. You'll find them having a minimalistic life, using cycles and are very simple and smart. Every department has unique professors. They work on a lot of projects which you can be a part of as well, according to your area of interest.

Yes, IIT Madras has a very good Placement Cell. The exposure to placements and the recruitment process is given from the first year itself as students are involved in helping the final year graduates for the same. There's a Career Development Cell which helps students in their preparation and boost their confidence as well. Various events are conducted in collaboration with Sangam Clubs to improve the personality of the candidates and help them prepare for the best.

There are around 22 hostels in IIT Madras, ranging from undergraduates to masters, Ph.Ds. and research scholars. The hostels are quite good in infrastructure with great amenities and proper ventilation. The hostels have a gym room, library and a common room. Every semester there's a hostel night, where you get to enjoy good food. The hostel nights are fun as it consists of competitions, a fashion show, talent awards as well as a DJ night, to dance your heart out before the exams.

There's a newly built NAC-1 and NAC-2 along with the Sudha Shankar Block. These buildings are the eye-catching hub of IIT Madras. The newly built hostels give you a 4-star experience but the old hostels have tales to tell in themselves, so there's no comparison between the two. We have a central library, Ajanta, Ellora, CCD, Usha Cafe, HFC, Zaitoon and a lot more.

We have lots of fests happening at our institute ranging from cultural, technical, financial fests or the Entrepreneurship Summit. Saarang is the largest cultural fest and Shaastra is the largest technical fest, having very a high footfall from South Indian colleges. The E-Summit gathers audiences from all across India as well as outside India. 36 Wall Street is the finance fest of IIT Madras. There's CFI which is basically the technical hub of IIT Madras. You can bring in any idea or thought and build your childhood fantasy whether it’s a mechanical car or plane.
