DTU is considered a brand in India especially in New Delhi due to its placement records. It has a great alumni network with notable alumni including V.S. Sharma (founder of Paytm), Vinod Dham (father of Pentium chip Intel) and Sushant Singh Rajput. This university is located in Rohini, Delhi and is spread over a large area of 163 acres. It is considered the mother of IIT Delhi because IIT Delhi had its first building in the DTU campus. This university was established in 1949 and is as old as 75 years.

There are courses like B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, BBA, M.Sc., Ph.D. and BDes. For B.Tech one has to qualify the JEE Mains exam. 85% seats are reserved for 12th pass students from the Delhi region. JAC Delhi takes care of the counselling procedure, which happens at same time with JOSSA. Mechanical Engineering in DTU is considered at par with IIT.

The faculty here has senior and junior professors. Some are Ph.D. pursuing scholars. They are very cooperative as they provide notes after every lecture so students do not need to write in class. The lab faculty is very strict. They do not help students with experiments but take easy viva. The exam papers are set by the HOD or some senior faculty, which is somewhat like the previous year papers. You can also get WhatsApp numbers of the faculties to ask doubts after the lecture.

The Training and Placement Cell actively brings alumni to interact, guide and motivate the students. Dr. Rajesh Rohilla has been the Head of the Department and has brought the placement percentage to 85%. Approximately 1850 students got placed out of 2200 B.Tech students in 2023. But it declined to 47% in 2024 due to the global recession. In 2024 about 2394 students were registered, but there were only 1214 offers and only 1131 students got placed. There are many startups founded by the students of DTU. Also, students get placed in startups with the help of DTU IIF.

There are 5 boy’s and 3 girl’s hostel. The new boy’s and girl’s hostel is like a 5 star hotel and a sky scrapper. The names of some famous hostels are Arya Bhatta, Sister Nivedita, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Laxmibai. But the mess food is not up to the mark. The old boy’s hostels are not of good standard. The hostel fees are Rs. 80,000 including the mess charges (50,000 + 30,000).

The campus is well built, having a world class new academic block and auditoriums. Even the old buildings are well maintained with access to lifts. All the classrooms have AC and smart boards. The library has 3 floors. The books in all sections are accessible to only the DTU students and the staff members. The sports complex is spread over a huge area giving opportunity to take part in all games, with a playing kit also being provided.

The campus is spread over 163 acres. It is connected near the Samaypur Badli metro of Yellow Line. The fests Engifest and Yuvaan are organized every year in the month of February. DTU has the 2nd best fests in Delhi after IIT Delhi. We get to meet celebrities like Shreya Ghoshal, Vidyut Jamwal, Arjun Rampal, Alakh Pandey, Jitendra Kumar and Vijendra Choudary. There are tech and non tech societies like the Unmanned Automation System, Team Defianz Research, Cultural Council and the Photography Society. Societies help you interact with seniors and build a strong resume. There is no tolerance for ragging in the campus.
