University of Engineering and Management B.Tech Review By Krishnakanta Sharma

To be honest, I chose UEMK because I couldn't get into IEM Salt Lake, which is the main campus of our university. My JEE result was also not up to the mark, so I couldn't opt for government colleges. Also, I didn't want to go too far in the South or North. If you are also looking for a college suited for studies and a decent environment for your next 4 years in Kolkata then I suggest you can definitely think of my college. People who are living in West Bengal usually don't want to leave their home state and have the desire to complete their studies from Kolkata or any other place in state itself. If you can't afford much amount of money for your studies and want a better return of investment, this one's for you.

As I said my JEE result was not that good. I got around 70 percentile. So I wasn't hoping to get any government or well reputed colleges without paying a huge sum of money. Then I search for some colleges in Kolkata and I get to know about IEM and furthermore, my teachers also said that it is a good college and I can definitely apply into it. So, at the time of admission I didn’t get the Salt Lake campus, but I was offered a seat in the UEMK for my 75+ percentage in 10th and 12th which is usually the cut-off for admission.

The Faculties are good and friendly and also very nice to the students. They are well qualified for their jobs and are proficient with what they do the best i.e. teaching. They use verbal, written, and also smart ways to teach their classes and are very versatile with their teaching methods. My favorite teachers when I was in first year were my Mechanics ma’am and the Chemistry teacher that kept me motivated and helped me understanding the subjects that I despised a lot.

Placements are provided from our college. The average this year from our college is 3.6 LPA. The highest might be around 12 LPA. Overall, the placements are there but I don't think people will be satisfied with this little amount of payment. So, better grind your own way.

Our college also has hostel facilities and I am living in one. There are other hostels also, but they are scattered at other places, mine is also not in the main campus. My room is total white (I really like it), and attached bathroom and toilet is provided. The room has not that much space but it's enough. Although I would prefer it to be a little bigger just so that I could be able to keep a bigger table and chair in here. The food, rooms, and people are good. So, overall it's a great experience. When I was in my first year or when I first moved in the hostel, I thought that it would be a very bad experience living in here, but eventually I didn't even realize how a year has passed living here.

The campus has 3 buildings and all are connected. It's not very big in area and you won't get any major outstanding campus life in here. You will have to wear uniforms everyday which will be hectic for some people if not everyone. Otherwise, everything that you need to complete the course in an efficient way is provided in our college. You won't be facilitated with the start-of-the-art facilities but the minimal facilities will be there.

So, the campus is not that large in area, the campus life will not be very broad for you. Fest and major events are organised often. If one wishes to get along and want a club to find people of the same interests, I will let you know that there are various clubs where people can engage with their seniors and juniors.
