DCT's Dhempe College of Arts and Science B.A Review By Vineet Satyawan Naik

I am from Dhempe College, currently in the final year of BA. I wanted English Honors for my further studies which were not available in the previous college. I joined in May of 2023, I noticed how the admin office of the college was fast enough to go through all my documents and start with the required procedure. That was my first impression of the college. Further, I met a professional faculty member who was very much careful with their department. I have mentioned everything in detail in the next few sections. Overall, I really enjoyed Dhempe College, even though it was just 1 single year, I actually got to experience how a college atmosphere can be.

The Course has 5 subjects including American, British, European, and Indian literature. BA in English also contains a project work with 100 marks to be completed by a group of 8 to 10 students. Each group gets an individual guide from the faculty. The Project being the most important part of your final year contains the highest value. The course will have 2 semesters, with each semester having two ISAs (Intra Semester Assessment) out of which 1 ISA will be a test of 10 marks and other ISA will be an assignment containing 10 marks. Both semesters will have each SEE exam containing 80 marks. If you continue from the same college, you will be provided with a form for the subject, in my case (as I joined only for the final year) I was given an admission form to fill up. I was asked to submit the entire important document such as, Leaving certificate, Birth Certificate, Residence Certificate, Aadhar Card, and 12th std mark sheet. Eligibility will be nothing more than passing all your previous semesters. I always knew that I will be going for English Literature, and that motivated me to choose the following.

As mentioned, the course has five subjects with one project, and 4 female teachers were allotted for our batch. All four of them have Ph.D Degrees. Mentioning also the fact that 3 of them were students of the same college, Dhempe College is the first Educational institute that was built after Goa was liberated back in 1961. There is no doubt that the teaching could be poor by this faculty. Our class had 4 to 5 lectures a day, and the teachers were very much punctual about their lectures. Each one of them had their style of teaching. Someone used Projector and PPT and taught, someone used a humorous way of teaching making the understanding better and someone used to make us write every now and then resulting in more focus and less sleepiness. Every Notice, homework or assignment was sent to us prior to the submission date through email or WhatsApp groups. Overall, the faculty made sure to have a friendly approach towards every student.

Although the college gave us a college email id, we hardly received a placement mail or any job offer. The only mail still available in my mail box is coming from some local startup here in goa offering a data entry job and some advertisements mails from IIT mandi about their campus and other stuff.

Dhempe College has no hostel facility available. The college is located in the busy city area besides Miramar Beach.

I moved from some other college, and the infrastructure shift for me was really very huge. First of all, in a city area, the infrastructure is really well maintained and equipped with the necessary technology. Although it is the oldest college in Goa, the buildings still look new and can match the other infrastructural vibe of Panjim City. The classes are equipped with Smart projectors, whiteboards, smart screens, and large windows which help greatly in air circulation. The big thing is that the entire campus is equipped with free Wi-Fi. The washrooms are clean and tidy, being cleaned regularly. Across the road, Dhempe has another building called the Annexes Building where other classes are conducted. The Science Labs are all equipped with enough and necessary things. Dhempe also has a Language lab with available computers and internet helping greatly to all the students.

I found really helpful and kind people around me for that one year. The campus is not huge but big enough that you can explore and have many activities going on around. It is a beautiful vibe with some cool people and cool Staff of the college. The seats are usually full every year for every stream as it is the only renowned and known college in the state. Dhempe carries out various different events and one of the most famous is The Creations. Creations is currently Goa's Biggest college event being organized by the college where many celebrities are invited to perform every year, it is really a wonderful treat to the students as you get to experience the event. Sports and other activities are also conducted in the college.
