It is a very good experience to be in NIT Silchar. To be honest, I got this college as per my JEE Main rank. The overall placement is good here with an average package of 24 LPA for CSE and 18 LPA for ECE. My main objective while choosing was to look for good placements and a good overall academic life. I am definitely not regretting to be here. The campus is too big and really beautiful to explore. That's why I would suggest studying here, if your rank supports it.

The course I have enrolled in is Electronics and Communication Engineering. It is a four year B.Tech course in which you will be diving into electronic things including some software skills .The entry requirement is very simple, one should have a good percentile in the JEE Mains exam and a minimum of 75% in the 12th board exams or obtain top 20 percentile in your respective boards. The ultimate motive to enroll in this was to get a good package which is good for this branch here, around 18 LPA. There is a vast opportunity in this field. Believe me, if you have interest in electronic things then you can choose this course without any hesitation.

The faculties who are teaching us have good knowledge and experience. Almost all of them have some research background or very wide knowledge in their subject. They have a teaching experience of nearly 10+ years in IITs and other well known institutions. Most of them have even been student in IITs and IISCs. To be honest the teaching styles of the professors are outdated, it seems like they are not interested in teaching until you have some interest. In class, they come and simply repeat the theories, no broad explanation or question practice. Even the subjects taught are also outdated.

Yes, we have a placement cell in my institute. They are very good in their work. NIT Silchar placements were going good till 2022, due to the recession it affected the batch of 2023. But this is the case for almost all the institutes, not only NIT Silchar. Now its better, the average package for CSE is 24 LPA, for ECE its 19 LPA and 15 LPA for EI followed by other branches like Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.

We are provided hostels by the institute with a very nominal charge of 23k for the both mess and hostel. The hostels are good here having greenery and sufficient size rooms. The rooms have a bed, cupboard, table, chair and LANs for internet connections. Food provided in the mess is not nutritional but good in taste. The food quality in the 1st year of my hostel was not good, especially in the Aryabhatta Hostel. But overall this college will provide you a good place for your next four years.

The campus is too good; you will get many places to chill out. The overall infrastructure is good, but the classrooms of the first and second year students are not that good. You will get good classrooms in your third and fourth year. The library here is Asia's largest digital library. The infrastructure of the hostels are also good, especially Hostel 9 and the Aryabhatta Hostel. The weather here is good, it rains almost five days in a week if it's the summer and one to two days in the winter. The college has around 20+ lakes, among them only a few are beautiful. There is a tea garden just adjacent to the college, which is a really good place to chill out.

Overall the campus life in NIT Silchar great. But you will really miss the city life. There is nothing outside the college except a few food stalls with very few items in their menus. The college gets crowded because of its courses for MBA, M.Tech and a few more. We have clubs for social activities, technical activities, extracurricular activities and almost for every sport. We have fests held twice a year, generally one tech fest named “Technosis” and one cultural fest named “Incandescence”. The college invites Indian-level stars to these fests. Apart of this, we have some small fests based on different majority cultures present here.
