Gargi College B.Sc Review By Shailja Rani

GC-DU comes under one of the best colleges of the Delhi Universities in the South campus. It is a women's college and was established in the year 1967. It has been accredited with a grade of A+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It has also been awarded a star status by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and the Government of India. The Gargi College provides a variety of courses. Admission takes place via CUET-UG and CUET-PG. The college environment is great and provides exposure to various experiences and perspectives. The college follows NEP (New Education Policy) which allows individual growth beyond their subjects. The administration is very supportive and takes multiple initiatives for the student’s welfare. Although, some people prefer co-ed colleges over women's colleges, in my opinion. But this college empowers women and helps them grow in multiple aspects. The college has various student societies that play a major role in the overall development of students. Apart from these societies, each department has its society which keeps organizing multiple events. There is an ECA break every Tuesday, in which all co-curricular activities are organized. One of the major perks being in a DU is that the fee is almost negligible and the college provides multiple opportunities for acquiring academic scholarships, which will easily cover your college annual fees.

Being a student of Microbiology, I feel the syllabus is a little tough and vast but necessary. The syllabus is designed in such a way that it covers all the major portions of Microbiology. This college is the top choice for people aspiring to study Microbiology at the Delhi University. The beauty of this course is that you can switch to many subfields of Microbiology which include Mycology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Computational Microbiology, Hospital Administration, etc. B.Sc. courses offered in this college are for three to four years. The college provides a Hons. Degree for three years and a Hons. + Research Degree for four years. The Microbiology course offers both practical and theoretical knowledge of the subject.

The faculty members at the Gargi College are highly qualified individuals and experts in their fields. They are some of the best professors you will find in India. They not only focus on the academic well-being of the students but their overall development. The faculties are committed to give good quality education to the students. They do everything for the best interests of their students. The professors are well-versed in dealing will all the papers provided during the course curriculum. The Microbiology department has 8 professors and all of them are deeply involved in teaching both practical and theoretical aspects of Microbiology.

Although the placement rate in the Science department is quite low, the college provides amazing placements for the Commerce and Humanities students. The college has a dedicated placement cell that organizes various placement drives. They also organize a placement fair for the students who wish to enter the corporate life. This May, the annual internship fair was held, which was called Elevate 4.0. Several students bagged internships at Zomato, Urban Company, Tata Power, Justdial, Accenture, etc.

This college doesn't have an in-campus hostel, but it provides off-campus accommodations via the Under Graduate Hostel for Girls, Delhi University. It is available for the full-time undergraduate students of this college.

The college has its famous red building. It is spread over 13 acres and has separate blocks for Arts, Commerce and Science. The college has well-equipped laboratories. It has a well-maintained garden having plenty of lush greenery. The college has a well-stocked, two-storey library with a wide variety of books. The library also has reading rooms where students can read peacefully. The college has a two-storey auditorium with the capacity of about 700 students. A new building is being constructed. However, for now finding classrooms for additional courses can be pretty hectic.

Many festivals are organized by the student council regularly. Recently during Jan-Feb the fest, Reverie was organized. The college also conducted its cultural fest called Zistatva during the Durga Puja celebration. The college also provides opportunities to meet notable figures. Honorable Dr. S.Jaishankar recently visited our college and it was great interacting with him. Overall, the college life here is great and I will choose the Gargi College over any other college.
